Thursday is Pennsylvania’s Learn to Ski Day

January 2, 2001 — Each winter, a number of resorts in Pennsylvania group together to sponsor a “Learn to Ski Day.” Intended as a way to draw new skiers and boarders into the sport, these resorts offer specials on lift tickets, lessons, and/or rentals. On Thursday, January 4, several Pennsylvania resorts will participate in this year’s Learn to Ski Day. Offered midweek, there should be a lack of crowds, and the current ski conditions are ideal for learning.

Reservations for Learn to Ski Day specials are usually required in advance, so contact the resort you plan to visit as soon as possible to reserve your space and find out more details. Most resorts will be offering a comprehensive rental, lesson, and beginner lift ticket for $10. Note that the lift tickets are usually limited to lifts serving beginner terrain - the packages aren’t intended for seasoned skiers looking for a cheap ticket, although it is a great opportunity to introduce friends to skiing or boarding.

Liberty Mountain will be offering a special package for new skiers on Thursday. Liberty will allow the first 200 guests in the morning and the first 200 guests in the afternoon to purchase a “Learn to Ski Package” for just $10. The package includes ski or snowboard rental, group lesson, and a beginner lift ticket.

Whitetail will also be offering a $10 package Thursday including rental, lesson, and beginner lift ticket. In addition, skiers and boarders will be able to purchase a $29 voucher for their next visit.

Blue Mountain Resort will be offering a $10 beginner package.

Not all resorts participate in Learn to Ski Day; to determine participation by other resorts, pleae contact the resort directly in advance.

Also on Jan 4, Ski Chalet sponsors their $2 lift and demo deal. Must buy ticket in advance. I think I'm gonna go for it.

For Liberty,
What trails are permitted on the beginner's lift ticket?
Is Don't Worry open?
What is the All Mountain Package?
If you're not too athletic :) , Can you get the AM and PM learn to ski?
Do they take reservations on learn to ski?

The First Class package includes a lift ticket that is good for the two lifts on the frontside that do not go to the top of the mountain. The All mountain package allows access to all the lifts and trails. Both include a lesson and rentals.

Liberty does not take reservations for PA learn to ski. If you are concerned for someone who is not too athletic, the First Class package includes a guarantee that you will learn, so there is no need to buy it twice or get it free twice.

Somewhere on this web site is an article I wrote about learning to ski. It might be a good idea to look for it and give it a read or give it to the prospective skier...

It's an oldie but goodie. (It uses the old DCSki layout, which has been deprecated, so some of the items on the page might look oudated. I'll probably re-run it again soon.)

Some of you noticed the URL I gave above doesn't quite work.. I forgot that I do some parsing in article comments as they're posted, and some characters are removed, including underscores.

In the part of the URL that has "013099", there should be an underscore after the "01" and also after the "30". (For example, see the URL of the current article you're reading to see the format.)

Hope that makes sense.

IN THE PAST THE SKI RESORTS HAVE OFFERED LEARN TO SKI TICKETS WITH THE MONEY GOING TO A CHARITY DO THEY STILL OFFER THEM AS I TAKE LOW INCOME CHILDREN AND A PENNY SAVED I CAN TAKE MORE CHILDREN
