Hound Ears

Near Boone, North Carolina

Hound Ears Club is a small club located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. The four-season resort offers activities such as golf, tennis, swimming, and dining, and at one point appears to have offered downhill skiing on two slopes. Hound Ridge began skiing in the mid-1960s, although we do not know when downhill skiing ended. Hound Ears is located on Highway 105 between Boone and Linville, North Carolina.

I skied Hound Ears once about 15-20 years ago. A very small slope with one double lift and a rope tow on the kiddie slope. The hill was very small with one 90 degree turn and that's it. Not a place for the experienced skier. Excellant for beginners first time.

Hound Ears was the first ski slope in North Carolina. It opened in the early 1960s. The Robbins brothers developed the resort(they were in the lumber business, and developed Tweetsie railroad. It had a very exclusive cliental. I skied there in 1970.
