| Resort Overview - reported by M. Scott Smith, DCSki Editor |
Located just a few miles from Penn State University, Tussey Mountain is a small ski area tucked away into central PA. And we do mean central PA: it’s right in the middle of the state.
Tussey Mountain doesn’t offer a huge number of trails (seven), or a huge vertical (500 feet), but it does offer inexpensive lift ticket prices. Cheap lift tickets are especially palatable to college kids, so it’s no surprise that Tussey Mountain’s main clientele is students from Penn State. Midweek discounts sweeten the deal. But the resort is also popular with adults and families.
Tussey has a terrain park and also offers 1,000-foot long tubing runs.

| Summer Activities |
During the summer, Tussey Mountain offers a quarter-mile go-kart track, a skatepark, a driving range, batting cages, paddleboats, and par 3 golf. There are also hundreds of hiking and biking trails nearby in the Rothrock State Forest. The resort occasionally features summer festival and concerts, and also offers pavilion rentals for group picnics and other functions.

October 14, 2006 at 10:43 pm I have skied Tussey several times. I went to state college on business. One day had 16 inches of champaigne powder and a cancelled flight. Woo Hoo.
Chilli is great at the cafeteria and its fun to listen in to the PE ski lectures while eating. Down side is the slowest lifts in the world are at Tussey. Comments on Tussey Mountain - posted by wjmSkier
October 23, 2006 at 4:17 pm I discovered Tussey when my son enrolled in PSU 2 years ago. True, the lifts are slow, but the lines are usually short and the slopes uncrowded. The 2hr ticket is a great buy as PSU is only 15 minutes away. It is one of the few remaining areas with that "family feel". Some of the trails are steeper than usually found at a small area. One of the best mid Atlantic areas for viewing ski races. Haven't skied that champaign powder yet, but still have 2 more undergraduate years.....

September 22, 2007 at 1:49 am Oh Tussey mountain... I am currently on the Penn State Ski team and Tussey is our home hill. For such a small area with so little vert it really is a great place. It has your standard green bunny hill, a medium pitch run that is wide and good for intermediates and advanced skiers alike, a windy blue that cuts from the top of the green to the bottom of the green, and a true black diamond run to the far right that is really enjoyable to ski and can get moggled up. Also, for such a small area they do a fantastic job with snowmaking. Normally, as soon as the temps get cold enough they will blow and not really turn off the guns until february as long as conditions permit. However, unlike larger areas they will continue to blow at full pressure during skiing hours which makes for some loud and very chilly skiing but also great conditions if the temps are 20. Food is not bad at the lodge, can get very icy at the top when the wind blows all the snow off, can get extremely cold when the wind picks up, is a great place for racing and to view races like others said, they have a trail to the way far right where the snowmaking broke 10 or 15 years ago and the pipes were never replaced meaning it never opens without extensive natural snow, ill leave it at that even though i could probably go on for an hour listing all the positives and negatives about Tussey. Overall, a very fun, chap, and family style area. If you happen to be in State College i would highly suggest stopping by.

September 22, 2007 at 1:52 am Oh and there is defiantly no half pipe at tussey but the park is not to shabby in the late season and is maintained by the penn state snowboard club

Funny... I head the exact same thing when I was going to Penn State..... back in 1992. LOL Comments on Tussey Mountain - posted by Langleyskier
September 24, 2007 at 4:23 pm Thats pretty funny. Really shows you what kind of "resort" tussey is... their snowmaking has been broken on a trial for 20 years plus yet they have not even made an attempt to repair it. Lets hope rest of the snowmaking system never fails or tussey could go out of business!

February 2, 2009 at 5:22 pm World's slowest chairlift.
Vertical is 400' not 500' Actually quite steep. 28 degrees off the top of the main which is steeper than almost anywhere in the east. In a full tuck, the mountain can be skied in 18 seconds. Comments on Tussey Mountain - posted by Jordan
May 1, 2009 at 10:08 pm Okay, I'm on Tussey's Junior Race Team and we spend every waking moment at Tussey, and love it. It takes exactly 7 minutes and 43 seconds to get up the lift and 4 minutes and 22 seconds to get up the t-bar (which they fixed with duct tape) Never get chair 32, the bars don't go down, and chairs 75 and 1 are lucky. If you ask nicely in the lodge, they'll warm up your cinnamon bun for you and always try the vending machine without money first, it sometimes works. Also, never use the front door to the lodge, you are guarenteed to fall oh, and Mary, I beat your record of 18 seconds. I skied Tusc in 15.4.
