Instructor Testimonials

Instructor Testimonials

"Working with the Snow Sports Learning Center has not only elevated my riding, but introduced me to a world of teaching I never knew. In addition to a new skill, I have gained a family that I get to spend time with every winter!"- Chad S.

"I have been a Ski and Snowboard Instructor for the last 13 years. I actually worked about 35 years ago before I had kids, and then returned when they were old enough to be on the Snowboard team. I got a special value pass but realized I missed teaching. I had learned to snowboard and was rehired as a snowboard instructor but also taught skiing. It’s a fun winter activity and I have met lifelong friends through the Massanutten family. My skiing and riding has improved so much with clinics and just riding with my friends. It’s just a fun seasonal job where I get to do what I love!"- Suzy S.

Ski Instructor FAQs

While we do not have a shuttle for employees, you are more than welcome to talk with a supervisor. We have lots of instructors coming from JMU and other local colleges! We will always be willing to work with employees to make sure that they can make it into work safely and on time.

Experience teaching skiing or snowboarding is not essential. Having the ability and desire to communicate with our guests is our goal. If you can safely ski or snowboard our easiest slope, you can teach! Even if you have no experience on the slopes, we can train you to be a better skier/rider, as well as a good instructor. So, no teaching experience is required.

If you do not have your own equipment, you may use our rental gear for tryouts. After you’re hired, we can provide you with discounted equipment options for the season. We will issue you a vest and jacket for use while instructing; However, you will need to acquire your own black pants to wear as part of your uniform.

We have many schedule options from part time to full time to fit your needs.

From the adults to the children, the first timers to the advanced skiers, our supervisor will be willing to work with you to make sure you’re teaching a group that you’re comfortable with.

Pay starts between $11.50/hr. to $13.50/hr, based on your schedule and time commitment. Raises are earned from the number of hours taught and training clinics taken.

Being a resort, often our guests are gracious with tips for the excellent care and customer service that you will provide. Many of our instructors are rewarded with tips after a lesson.
