It is about 7 miles from the Timberline base lodge and about 5 from Davis.

We stayed at Black Bear two years ago. They are strange little pod houses, but adequate. You're about 5 miles from Timberline. Not bad at all. One word of caution -- the unit we rented had a faulty fireplace. Black smoke filled the place up and it was very scary. The resort managers were not too cool about accepting responsibility -- but we eventually got "most" of our security deposit back. We'd never stay there again, though...

We stay there all the time and have never had any problems. We loved them so much we ended up buying one. We never have had anything but positive experiences with the service and staff there and that played into our decision to purchase. They have great trails for strolling 3 good hills for sleding (I suggest you bring an inflatable tube).
We also like the equal distance between the town of Davis and the resorts. You are never more than 15 minutes from wherever you need to go.
