What’s New for 2009: Massanutten Resort
By M. Scott Smith, DCSki Editor
May 17, 2009 —
For the 2009-2010 winter season, Virginia’s Massanutten Resort will unveil a new Doppelmayr CTEC quad chair lift, replacing a Borvig double chair that was originally installed in 1972. The new lift will be the first in Virginia to feature a loading conveyor belt.
The new lift will be located to the skier’s left of the original lift, with the load area moved closer to the ski lodge to provide better access. Massanutten is also updating its trail design to provide access to both Geronimo and Southern Comfort.

Firsthand Report: Massanutten Weekend (February 28, 2010)
DCSki Columnist Matthew Graham found ample opportunities for fun during a weekend visit to Massanutten February 20-21, 2010. He found fun on the Virginia resort’s popular snow tubing hills, in the indoor water park, on the ski slopes, and listening to live entertainment at night. OK, there might have been one face plant that resulted in a trip to the first aid office, and that probably wasn’t fun. But the rest of the weekend was “plain stupid fun.”

May 18, 2009 at 8:53 am I think this replaces the "beginner lift" at Massanutten, the short double chair to the left as you're looking up the hill from the ski lodge. They are adding capacity and moving it to skiers left, making less skating/poling to reach the lift up Rebel Yell. Very good.
Now they need to cut a few more advanced trails to the skiers left of the experts quad up to Diamond Jim :-) |
