What’s New for 2004: Wintergreen
4
Virginia’s Wintergreen Resort is currently busy installing its second high-speed 6-passenger chairlift. The new Highlands Express will cut a 10-minute lift ride to under 4 minutes, while reducing lines.
Wintergreen has also cut a new trail, “The Gap,” which goes from Lower Dobie to Devils Elbow. Devils Elbow and the second pitch of Upper Wild Turkey have also been widened.
some photos from the new lift you can see at www.ropeways.net - projects section
Love this web site and check it out often.....but feel to much attention is given to the resorts in WV, MD and PA.
Depending on where you live in the DC region, the resorts in VA are an option. Why not give em some more press?
From the photo's Felix posted, Wintergreen is going to be hopping this year with the new lift and trails.
Fantastic scenery...what a view from the top of the lift !!
New 6 pack hi speed for the Highland area is done - they are blasting snow for that area. Newly enlarged slopes on that side of the mt. see http://www.wintergreenresort.com/ Should be great and take pressure off Acorn. The new computerized snowmaking all over the mountain was a tremendous plus so this year should be awesome!
We go down frequently and use a slightly different route from that posted on the WTG website; rather than get on Rt. 64 out of Cville, continue S on 29 about 24 miles. right on Rt. 6 (thre is a WTG sign) up Rockfish river valley about 6 miles to Rt. 151, then follow normal directions (L on 151 thru Nellysford to Ski Barn, Right up Mt., etc. ) Rt. 6 is well plowed and scenic. The Rt. 29/6 way is less stressful, takes the same amount of time (maybe faster depending on 64 traffic despite a couple more miles)and is prettier. You have 2 chances at the Rt. 6 turn; at WTG sign and immediately after at Walton Store Sign (this is Walton - John Boy country!). DO watch for highway patrol between Albermarle & Nelson Counties $$$.
