On December 24, 2010, I met up with Eric Mosel (aka “Crush” on the DCSki Forums) for a four hour blast of top-to-bottom skiing at Liberty Mountain. Not a line in sight all day. The snow conditions were A+. All runs on the back were open including Lower Strata, our favorite for the day. A full run was available top to bottom with moguls on Eastwind trail. It was a great day for any one who made it out.

On December 28, Gary Whitmore and I ventured to Roundtop Mountain Resort for the Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge race. Weather was spectacular, with temperatures in the low 30’s, blue sky and sun. No lines or waits at the lifts. All runs were open except for the half pipe. Conditions were A+, dry powder with the squeaky sound. At times we were the only people on a run. Moguls were set on Upper Ramrod, the side of Upper Lafayette’s, and Upper Gun Barrel.
One of our favorite trails was Susquehanna which offered left and right turns and the natural rolls of the terrain.

Mother Nature provided the cold air and the recent investments in snowmaking technology and grooming has provided some of the best snow quality ever. Weather wise the rest of January looks like below normal temperatures which should translate into continued awesome snowmaking.
Think skiing and riding is expensive? A night club card valid at Liberty, Roundtop, and Whitetail can allow 50+ evenings on the slopes for one flat rate of $194.00. See www.skidome.org for more information.
