DCSki Columnist John Sherwood took these photos of Zell am See Kaprun during a visit to Austria earlier in September. Spread out over several base areas, the resort offers 138 kilometers of skiing and 51 lifts. Ample high elevation skiing up to a height of 3,000 meters (9,843 feet) can be found at Kaprun. John’s photos show the glacier skiing area below Kaprun’s Kitzsteinhorn peak, and the Zell am See, one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in Austria. Both areas are linked together by a convenient local rail and bus network. Zell am See is less than four hours by train from Munich airport.
