Both Seven Springs and Blue Knob report that snowmaking is underway. Seven Springs posted videos on their web site as well as their Facebook page. No opening dates announced.

Not often that the PA map on OpenSnow looks like this.  Totals might be a little high, but you get the idea. :-)

Marz, I think that map shows the total snowfall for all of last winter. Actually, we got a lot more snow out of this than the local meteorologists predicted. So far Pittsburgh's official snow depth is 6.8 inches which is the average for the entire month.

The map is a prediction from probably 24 hours ago for the next 5 days.  But OpenSnow doesn't have a "local" meteorologist paying attention to the mid-Atlantic.  So the predictions are rarely that close.  I just like to look at OpenSnow maps because it's a quick way to look at any region or state.  Can also look at all locations for the most popular multi-resort passes.

Fun to see blue instead of black with zero for so many locations in PA . . . . in early December. :-)

It has been a while since we've had such a nice snowfall. Too bad it happened before the resorts are open. Although Seven Springs didn't announce an opening day I have no doubt that if the temperatures stay cold enough overnight and the predicted rain turns out to be snow or at least light rain Seven Spring will open this weekend.

Not so bad, get freshies tomorrow at Snowshoe.  They open for passholder appreciation day, which is about everyone these days.

OpenSnow featured a picture of Seven Springs in today's "Snow for the East" update. :-)

Laurel fired up the snow guns. Opening date is usually the week before Christmas.

So encouraging after this miserable year. Such a special place. It's the reason I get a Highland pass. Hope to see you on the slopes.

I was surprised that 7S didn't open a few front side trails this weekend. In the linked article Alex Moser explained their reluctance to do so due to Covid concerns. This is going to be a strange season and if huge crowds show up it will be difficult to enforce state guidelines. Weekends might be very crowded. Virus transmission outdoors seems not to be prevalent. At least we have that going for us. Lucky are those that can ski on weekdays.

In this article, Mr Moser stated "We haven’t seen our website this active since 2012, and our season-pass sales are already way ahead of last year. People are looking to get out and find an outdoor activity."

Find this somewhat hard to believe, given that season pass discounts were extended well beyond the normal early June deadline. If interest were that high, I would have expected Mr. Nutting to jack season pass prices north, not keep them discounted.

That being said, I have ZERO evidence to refute Seven Springs or Mr Moser.

Wow - Laurel has been making snow non stop since you posted this 3 days ago.  I'm really going to try and do a few midweek ski days there this winter.  I've gone a few Fridays and lift lines were nil.  I assume a Tues / Wed are even less.

That has been true even on Holiday weekends. Well, on Holidays you might have to wait for a few chairs to load. Things might be different this year especially if word gets out. I didn't check the calendar before my first post. Laurel is likely to open the week of Christmas.

PA Gov Tommy W just shut down indoor dining beginning this Sat until 8 AM Jan 4, 2021.  That has to hurt 7S, HV and LM.

No Broadway Burger for me at the Wildcat Lounge in 2020.
