Since the Snow Sports Museum's inception back in February of 2018, we have been assembling the history of the snow sports industry from the Mountain State.  Included in that history are those who were the movers and shakers to bring skiing south of the Mason Dixon.  Featured in the inaugural class of 2020 (we keep calling it the COVID class) are names you may or may not recognize.  I want to list them here since we are planning an their induction into the HOF on Saturday, September 11 at the Black Bear Resort Lodge in Canaan Valley.  I will post more of the specific information later.  We will also be hosting the first Annual HOF Classic Golf Tournament at CVR on Sunday, September 12.   The class is large since we have some caching up to do.

Inductees for 2020:

Bob and Anita Love Barton...... developed the first commercial ski area (Weiss Knob) in West Virginia. (posthumous)

Mark and Bonnie Branciaroli..... Media Specialists in the 80s, 90s, and 00s, created Ski WV, Ski Pennsylvania, Making Tracks, etc...

Dr Thomas Brigham ........  developed Snow Shoe Mountain as well as several other ski areas in the southeast. (posthumous)

Chip Chase.....   Developed White Grass Nordic Area in Canaan Valley.

Katherine Worden and Belmont Cleaver....  owned and operated the Worden Hotel in Davis where skiers gathered. (posthumous)

Edmund Couch Jr. ....  President of the Ski Club of Washington DC in 1951, the year that Cabin Mountain was discovered. (posthumous)

Murray Dearborn...  Manager and operator of the CV State Park Ski Area in the 70s.  (posthumous)

David Downs...   Developer with Allegheny Properties and first owner/operator of Timberline.

Ed Galford....   Long time general manager of Snowshoe Resort.

Hal Leicht....  One of the two men who discovered the "drift" on Cabin Mountain and first to ski in West Virginia.  (posthumous)

John Lutz...  Well know for his knowledge and abilities wishing the ski industry of West Virginia.  Too many accomplishments to list here.

Irene and Hobe Mauzy... operators of the farm where the "drift" was discovered.  Leased the hill to the SCWDC in 1951.  (posthumous)

Danny Seme...  Long time operator and CEO of Snow Shoe Mountain, Developer of Tory Mountain.

Gorman Young....one of the two men who discovered the "drift" on Cabin Mountain and first to ski in West Virginia. (posthumous)

Due to COVID restrictions, we have not yet had the induction celebration for these individuals.  Our plan is to hold the event outdoors at Black Bear in the early evening with catering by Whitegrass Cafe.  We will announce ticket prices at a later date.
