Friends,

We're goin g to Quebec City after Christmas.  Gonna prolly ski St. Anne and/or Le Massif.  I know there are other forums that cover that part of the world, but has anyone here skied either of those?  We've already skied Tremblant, which we really liked.

Good choice, both for the skiing and the French Canadian experience.  Been to and enjoyed both about 20 years ago.  It was a family trip with some non skiers so we combined skiing with the Quebec winter carnival  Le Massif is bigger and has undergone considerable expansion since then.  It has the lowest base elevation in North America, less than 100 feet above sea level but has 2500 feet of vertical and abundant snow, December thru April.  When we were there it had been 45 days since the last thaw or rain.  The freeze line hangs out for most of the winter to the south of the St. Lawrence river.  When skiing Le Massif we stayed in an ‘auberge’ (B&B) in the little town of Petite-Rivière-Saint-François.  The owner ate with us one evening, told us about backcountry and off piste in the area and shared his home made maple liqueur.  Can’t recall the name of the place, but the auberge experience anywhere in Quebec is not to be missed.  Mont st Anne and Stoneham were also very good.

QC area is a fun place for both culture and skiing.  Should be very pretty at Christmas time!

From my experience visiting Quebec City in the in late fall quite a while ago, you are going to have a great time.  We stayed at Mont Ste. Anne and drove into the city for a couple day trips, enjoying some fall colors on the way.  The drive was easy.

Here's a trip report on TheSkiDiva from 2015.  At the time, the writer was the owner/admin for that ski forum (women only): Oui, Ski Quebec!

A senior Ski Diva who lives near Mt. Tremblant thinks the drive from Quebec City to Le Massif is too long for a day trip.  She recommends staying in Baie St-Paul, a town 20 minutes from Le Massif.

Have fun!

 Keith,

Just saw this post. I've skied the Eastern Townships and the Mont-Ste-Anne + Le Massif region on 2 one-week trips each. JimK's articles, plus advice from Denis and marzNC, should have provided you with some very helpful information.

So ... how'd it go? Can you post a report? I haven't skied north of the border for several years and hope that my body has at least 1 more Quebec trip left. I'm especially interested in how your trip - and those of others here at DCSki - went. Things change, and trip reports are great for updates as I consider where to ski in future seasons.

Happy New Year!

Woody (and all),

TLDR: We only skied MSA.  The conditions were not great due to unseasonably warm weather.  But it was a nice mountain and I would recommend it.  More later...
