I love Whitefish, but I can't stand the fog that prevents you from seeing more than 10' in front of you some days. They have a cool town that has decent restaurants. It's not a super insanely crowded resort town or ski hill, much more laid back. Not very commercial. Powder days get busy of course, but you can ski fairly extreme here while also cruising blues with the family all day and not hit even 50% of the terrain.
I can't bring myself to gamble a whitefish trip, looking for suggestions of similar terrain and more of a laid back vibe, not overly commercial.
How about a combo of Tamarack and Brundage? Never been to either, but supposed to be cheap and uncrowded. I think both are on the Indy Pass?
Do you have Ikon or Epic pass? That could drive a lot of suggestions. Obviously, going more towards the southwest US, like Taos, Telluride, Crested Butte could get you more sunshine and those three, while commercial, are not too crowded.
Many options in west coast. I prefer sun therefore I always like Taos in NM and Sun Valley in ID.
If you don't mind travelling further north, Canada is a good option. Castle mountain in Alberta (on Indy Pass) and Red Mountain (in B.C. on Ikon) are on my bucket list, I have never been to either. Both are less well-known places, I presume they are less touristy and more chill?
Tamarack and Brundage used to be on my bucket list but not anymore. I am scared of white knuckle driving in snowy conditions.
Mount Bacholor is simlar. Bend OR is a cool town with a nice vibe. You can fly into Bend as well
