Hello friends.  I last went to the Shoe about 15 years ago.  Since we have Ikon, we finally decided to go up next Sunday-Tuesday.  Other than the day lodge extinction, can you tell me what else has changed?  And why do they only list 19 slopes open a week before xmas when it seems like we have had decent cold.  In ye olde times we expected a lot more.  (Tline is at 100%).
Thanks.

I just looked at their trail report and was surprised to see so little open.  In another post I was talking about how an early cold spell like this can mean trouble, because if it warms up a lot, they lose all that snow making.  I think it's a risk to over extend this early in the season.  My guess is that they are building up the base on their core trails, so that those trails will make it through anything.  If this cold spell started today and lasted the same number of days that we've had already, it seems to me every place would be fully open.

Oh, also, the changes.  Parking keeps getting trickier, at least on the weekend for day pass people. Some of their best advanced trails now are to the skier's right of Widowmaker (which aren't opened yet), and that lift is high speed.  I can't remember if that was added less than 15 years ago.  If you're not careful, you'll spend all day at the Ballhooter lift.

Thanks.  Those 2 Widowmaker side trails and short glade were already there when last we visited.  Good place to escape Balhooter.  We were yearly for a short time when the kids were younger.  Twice had monster snowfalls the week before xmas, but none this year.  This is a nice location for significant WV snow history -  "https://www.weather.gov/rlx/snow"  or weather.gov   Right now looking like 39F rain on Sunday, yikes.

The trail count will nearly double (if not more) on 12/19/25. Western Territory and Silver Creek open on Friday.

Thank you, that sounds very promising.  I was having some serious doubts.

They have been working on Spruce for over a week so it should open soon.  I was surprised they didn't open it last weekend.  I hope they start making snow on the other trails before it warms up.

They are grooming Cupp Run today. Word on the mountain is Cupp (upper and lower) and Shays (upper) open for biz late this week.

Looks like it's real.  Driving up tomorrow, ski Monday and Tuesday.  Bringing my 2 adult kids.  Shoe is up to 32 slopes including Cup and upper Shays.  Weather looks ok for Monday and then rain on Tuesday.  Ping me if interested.  Cheers.

They started blowing upper cupp yesterday am.  Going to be nip and tuck to get it open.

no fan guns on and porty fan guns on KB (on) and Shay's (not on)

Only Dancer and Spruce off BH, working on GH, KB.

Shoe has definitely in need of snowmaking plan for BH run

10 min lift stoppage on both eagle and western yesterday - quite frustrating and a bit disturbing

That said, good snow on lower cupp!  Go get you some!

The run is upper Shays to lower cupp.   Blowers running  on upper cupp but you can still see thin and bare spots.   Both ice face today.

Too many people bombing Cupp at Mach speed.  I like to work on carving even sheer ice.  No big deal.  Lift ski on.

Spruce maybe better run today - only half ice and zero traffic.  But then the lift….

Widowmaker run was ok and lift ski on all day. For us.

Good day with my adult kids.  Great to see how comfortable they are with the conditions.

Day 2 was opposite.  30 mph wind gusts, rain, pea soup fog. We were only going to ski the morning so left even earlier.  Got below the fog before we got down to 66.

Rain in forecast most days this week so you might see why they’re not making snow on BH.

I love the ride down 92 and then 220.
