I have Ikon and Epic (4 day local) pass.
I am off on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, contemplating a short trip.  Which one is better?
I have never been to HV, visited 7S and LH few times.  Have visited Snowshoe few years ago, was not the best experience because of the crowd.

I will either stay in Somerset PA for 7S or Elkins for SS.

Which one would you choose?  Or you'd rather stay home and not bothered?

I am going on a 2-wk ski trip out west, leaving on Jan. 2nd, Taos 1st week then Red 2nd week....

I am one of the biggest Snowshoe "homers" on here.  You answered your own question with this:

Have visited Snowshoe few years ago, was not the best experience because of the crowd.

Personally, I would opt for - stay home not be bothered. Like you, crowds ruin my experience.

If you have future options to avoid them, I'd go that route, IMHO

From my experience, 7S will be crowded during those holiday dates. LM is rarely crowded and HV is less crowded than 7S. I’d imagine that similar to 7S, Snowshoe will be mobbed and with southerners. And the drive to Snowshoe is tedious. So if you don’t mind skiing HV and LM, I would choose that option. At least you’ll get some turns in before your western trip.

I agree that LM and HV would be your best option.  They both typically don't get packed until after the holidays, and even at that point, we're talking about weekends.

...although a wednesday at 7S may not be that packed.  Opening day there was packed on a weekend, but last weekend when the storm blew through, it was moderately crowded and very skiable.  HV has not seen large crowds yet.
