Did Whitetail run out of snowmaking water?
one month ago
Suprised they are not blowing/opening more trails.
I don't think Whitetail has said anything officially, but there have been reports on some Whitetail-focused Facebook groups that the snowmaking pond has been quite low due to the significant drought this past year. (The pond is north of the resort on Blairs Valley Road, headed towards the golf course, so it's pretty easy to see it's not at the levels one would hope.) That would require the resort to be thrifty in how it applies its snowmaking power. On the plus side, there might be some significant natural snow coming this weekend (maybe even 1-2 feet), so that should help out!
They seem to be doing better than other local Epic resorts. Table below is from a FB post so I can’t vouch for its’ accuracy:

Washington Post had a story today about the massive drought affecting most of the country, and the impact it's having on ski resorts. It's pretty bleak. (Story here, but it may be behind a paywall.) From the story:
More than two-thirds of the country is facing unusual dryness or drought, stretching from the Pacific Northwest to the East Coast, touching every state except California. The stretch since July has been the driest period nationally since 2012.
I looked at the reservoir this weekend and have never seen it that low. We have a place up there so I see it frequently. Even though nothing has officially been said by Whitetail, I am quite certain they are rationing the water they have. I would love to see Limelight and Farside open this year, but I am not feeling confident. Hope I am wrong!
Big snow storm this weekend could change everything.

Either way, I just saw this promo for next Sunday and jumped on it.
$61 a head for lift ticket and rental after 3 p.m. Probably as good a deal I can hope for this season with my boys.
