Blue Knob ski area has now shut-down operations until they can put a skiable base down. I was in the BK neck-of-the-woods today, so went up to take a look. I just couldn't believe how LITTLE (man-made) snow was left! This current warm spell will definately take the slopes at BK right down to nothing but mud and rocks before it ends. I have to wonder if they're going to try to give it another go when cold weather returns. One thing that sets BK apart from most ski areas in the mid-Atlantic is management's willingness to open BK's slopes with limited conditions. I've seen BK open their famous "Glades" with as little as 8 inches of snow (with NO base underneath). I watched some of the younger skiers/boarders and BK regulars bash their way down through the Glades.....I could hear the sound of their skis and boards hitting stumps and rocks with nearly every turn. So, if and when BK gets some natural snow (8 inches or more), they're likely to open all 34 trails!

i think its just a matter of time before the snowtime resorts close down. my guess is that they may try to salvage the weekend and then shut down. It looks like they will lose the MLK weekend too based on the current long range.

So far, Massanutten is still showing everything opened. Kinda hard to get all excited about skiing now, sitting here with all the windows opened and everything, like it is a nice April morning.

So far we've been lucky. It has not rained too much which could have been very damaging. As of Tuesday, it was still very skiable, just keep an eye out for some of those brown spots.

I am actually on duty this Saturday evening, so I gotta ski it wether I want to or not, if it is still opened. I am taking my rock skis up there.
