I skied a farm field about five miles east of Zakopane. On a rope tow. It is still my only experience skiing in Europe.
There was an article in Ski Magazine a few years ago about skiing in Zakopane. Apparently poaching in the trees is a HUGE no-no. But they say the tree skiing is pretty frickin' worth it, too. I don't think that chute underneath the tram is ever officially open, either.
I've heard pretty good things about Slovakia and Johnfmh, I believe, can personally attest to the skiing in Slovenia, which is supposed to be very good (not Austria or Switzerland, but getting there).
For the real adventurous, there's always
Israel,
Lebanon, and
Iran. Yee haw.
If you're still bored after skiing with Ajamahygiene or whatever his name is, there's Moonshine Mountain.
