Got the Timberline newsletter #2 and they have fired up the guns.
hooray! got some decent snow at higher elevations friday/saturday too. last night it was snowing in the valley, but not much sticking, but when i rolled up to the purple fiddle in thomas and passed thru canaan heights it was a whiteout and couldnt see the road! today was working clearing trails at whitegrass and there was a good 2-3" on the trails at the top of cabin mountain at 4200ft, but not much at the base. amazing how much of a difference that 500-1000ft of elevation makes
Nice to hear Crunchy but did you see TL Guns going?
didnt see guns going, but temps were hovering around freezing this weekend it seemed. it was nice to see the top of the slopes standing out in white sunday morning tho. there was natural coverage above 3500'. altho it started raining a bit sunday evening. i woulda snapped some sweet scenic pics on the top of cabin mountain and around bald knob but my camera is out of commission from being submerged on my last trout fishing outing
im sure chip will have some up on the whitegrass site since many snow laden spruce pics were taken
I drove over to check it out yesterday and it looks like they blew a little bit of snow(couple hours worth)...also looks like the forecast for next few weeks ain't so hot, but they have started laying the block foundation for the new hotel that will sit at the bottom of winterset.
snow!
How did I miss the fact that they are putting a hotel at the bottom of Winterset? Did I just miss it or is this a (somewhat) new development? (no pun intended)
Clay
3 inches at wintergreen on Friday...
Was in the valley over the weekend with Clay and a few others for a HOA Board meeting. They had fired up the guns on Wednesday or Thursday for a few hours but no sno making over the weekend probably due to the humidity and the forcast for this week which would have caused them to lose most. I expect them to start making in a few weeks in earnest. It's still four weeks from their opening date at t-line. It was amazing how much sno was on the ridges vrs the valley floor.
Tucker, who is building this hotel? I'm almost positive that it wouldn't be t-line with their $$$ issues.
K, Timberline is building the hotel and I have heard they are doing the work in-house(but not sure about that)
Tucker,
Do you know how big it's going to be? I didn't even notice it when I was up last weekend.
Clay
I'll reserve my astonishment
Doing it "inhouse"????? Tucker, what have you been smoking?
No that they have had there snow guns going it would be nice if they would get there webcam going too....
Kim:
Sorry I missed the HOA meeting. Had to go to NC on some family business. A few weeks ago I did notice that T-line had cleared some land adjacent to the the lot behind the Winterset. That's presumably where the hotel is going to go. I wonder if the establishment will be built in time for the season.
My sources tell me they're also putting in a small shopping area with a restaurant and a convenience store....couldn't confirm a hotel, though.

say it ain't so! IMO, commercializing tline will seriously hurt its laidback vibe I love so much. please don't turn the valley into a snowshoe type area, its meant for skiing and loving the outdoors, not shopping!
Well, a restaurant wouldnt hurt. And I doubt they would put any store other than an antique store or something like Bears and Hares was.
This would be nice actually. I am sure (hopeful) a McDonalds wouldnt pop up there. But then again, you never know

McDonalds wouldn't be that bad...stop off for a burger in between runs...Maybe even put a Wal-Mart somewhere along the access road too...
BTW, I AM JOKING!!
Food services are seriously lacking at the line. We need more choices that we can get to by foot or skis. I'm all in favor of another restaurant, but let it be managed by someone who knows how to run a restaurant. Ann Cashion, are you reading this message???

Heck, spend that restaurant money on another lift or a few fan guns ! Save the meat loaf and boiled potatos!
All I really need is my PBJ and the pub.
If TLine is serious about a hotel or destination restaurant then they had better do something to upgrade the lifts.
