Skiing Weatherman Predictions
March 22, 2008
http://www.snocountry.com/article.php/20080308133604499The above link is for the Skiing Weatherman's latest forcast. Given that he hasn't been right yet this year perhaps we shouldn't take much stock in this prediction. However, this guys is saying that the season is far from over and that the best that this winter has to offer is yet to come...sort of.
Maybe we'll be skiing in April!
Joe Bastardi of Accuweather has been predicting a "book end" winter, with cold weather and lots of moisture for mid-March on.
So far he has been amazingly accurate. Whether we get rain or snow during Snowy Luau will depend on the track of the storm, but afterward, for the next few weeks, look out!!!

Well.... Snowing at Snowshoe right now... No wind, just a delicious, quiet snowfall... Seems something out of an old Simon and Garfunkle song... freshly fallen, silent shroud of snow... Any one remember which song that was?
Excellent '60s memory... Love S&G. Excellent music to listen by a fireplace on a snowy evening...
At 10:48 PM, 27 degrees at top of the mountain.
Well I think it is time for the Skiing Weatherman to hang up his barometer. Where is this cold snowy weather that is supposed to be happening. I'd like to get some of the stuff he's smoking.
Joe Bastardi must be sharing some of the same smoke!
March is not over...have faith snowsmith.

I'm not seeing anything good for the mid-Atlantic in the near term. Vermont will flirt with a rain/snow mix mid-week, and get some snow over the weekend. Too early to say how much. Longer term, any cold/snow that hits the mid-A won't arrive in time for most of the resorts, who will be long since closed by then. TL and SS may have a shot at something towards the end of the month, if they make it that far. I wouldn't hold my breath!
2300 hours at top of Snowshoe and it is 32 degrees. Great day today. They opened up almost every snow gun last night, leading to some very good conditions, especially in the afternoon.
I'm still hoping for a couple of degrees lower than predicted for this weekend... Could be a snowy one.
I've seen SS running the guns all the way through March, maybe the only resort in the region who does that. It's pretty damn impressive. They must have a huge snowmaking budget.
I know Timberline ran snowguns through midmarch the other year. I was really impressed when I was there the second or third week of March and the entire morning and early afternoon the guns from top to bottom were blazing. Considering others have said TL is one of the ones that would stop running the guns by Feb because of financial reasons. Maybe they realize how important it is to have snow to ride on in the first place is?
