Catch of the Day - Mt. Baker Washington
October 8, 2009
Ya Denis a lot of that snow was probably there last year. We were in Oregon the last week of August visiting our son, i've got a picture from Mt Hood of me with the Palmer Snowfield in the background. Next morning before we left we got a picture of three skiers carrying their skis through a parking lot full of runners getting ready for the hood/coast relay race. Forgot to get a trail map tho.
If this turns out to be a typical winter, Baker can be a real trip. It does typically have the highest snowfall totals in North America.
We stay in Bellingham. On the drive in you drive thru what seems to be rain forest -- with no snow. Everything is green moss colored. Heck 5-6 miles from the ski area there's no snow. By the time you get to the base you're surrounded by 12 feet of snow on either side of the road. They've had to dig the road out or it'd be under 12 feet of snow.
