Okay so here's the question: I am an advanced beginner, tired of renting gear. So I decided to buy, but I'm short on cash. (Who isn't).

I bought a new pair of Nordica Mega10 + books and looked around to buy some intermediate level shaped skis, used.

I found a pair of Volkl Vectris V30s in terrific shape with Soloman bindings. The bindings were set for a significantly smaller book, so I needed to get them remounted.

Here's the problem: That binding is no longer "idemnified" by Soloman, so Ski Chalet can't remount it (liability issues).

So I had to buy new Marker bindings for $100. I bought the skis for $60, so my total ski outlay is $160 for a pair of used skis, in good to excellent condition, with new bindings.

Does that seem like a lot? I hear the Volkl V30s are good, but I don't know anything about the Marker 10 bindings.

Any thoughts welcome

The bindings are most likely worth $100 dollars, but the skis alone (or with ~10 year old bindings) are probably barely worth $60, if that.

Gear geeks will chime in.

I like the idea of buying used stuff to break out of the rental mode. It will encourage you to ski more:-)
If you go to a swap like this one [ http://www.dcski.com/articles/view_article.php?article_id=1128&mode=headlines ] there are a lot of decent used skis with bindings for $160, but you did ok. You have new bindings and in a couple years when you are ready for different skis you may find a bargain at a swap on a pair of "flat" skis (new, but last year's model and without bindings) that you might switch your bindings to. How much did you pay for mounting fee? Whatever, it was probably worth it to get binding release checked and set for your profile.
PS: welcome to DCSki
