Managed to find a way to stay on the mountain this weekend, so drove up to Charlottesville Thu night. Marz Jr. is staying with our friends there. Drove the 4WD pickup this time. Useful on the mountain in the afternoon, but not required. I drove over the mountains on US33 north of Charolottesville about 7:30am this morning. Snow had started but the roads were fine.

Been snowing all day. Brighter early afternoon, then the snow got a little wet for maybe 30 minutes. But stayed relatively light at the top of the mountain. At least 6 inches so far. Once the new snow got scrambled, it took some work to make turns. No grooming, although maybe they did a little after closing last night. The bumps on MakAttack are pretty huge now. Plenty of them on ParaDice too. A few icy spots were showing through in the afternoon on MakAttack, Upper Showtime, PD, and DJ.

After 3pm, the clouds rolled down the mountain so visibility became an issue. A lot fewer people than Wed. Some local high schoolers, but not many families were braving the snowy roads. The Mnut mountain road stayed okay since it was about 32 degrees, so they could keep plowing.

Snow totals could be as high as 30 inches by Sat night! Probably going to leave the truck parked at the condo and walk over to the access stairs on Geronimo. In one of the Summit units (not the group at the top of the mountain). Not exactly ski in/out, but close enough during a massive snowstorm.

Arrival 8:30am

Snowing hard at 10am, covering clear lift seat in 3-4 min

Resort Drive relatively clear at 11:30am

Lift 4 on Southern Comfort, 9:30am

Lift 6, 10am

Lift 3 on Geronimo, 2:30pm

Lodge boardwalk being cleared, again, 2:30pm

Leaving ski lodge parking lot 4pm

Looks great. I've always wondered if the liftline under the the DJ/paradise chair would be skiable after a heavy snow event/ Did you see anyone trying this? I guess it would depend on what ski patrol was letting people do...

There were tracks under Lift 6 after the Dec. 19 snowstorm. They started right at the "NO ENTRY" sign put up by ski patrol just below their hut at the top. I saw two guys who looked like they were hiking the access road that leads to the Mid-Mountain building.

As of 8:30pm Massanutten Resort Drive (the road up to the ski lodge) requires 4WD. Presumably that will apply for most, if not all, of Sat, Feb. 6 too.

Wind is blowing more.
