My wife and I headed out to Snowshoe last weekend, and had a blast. The roads going up were snow covered, but we made it fine in the CRV with only a few small slides on the road up the new entrance. We got there at about 8:15, checked into our place early, and got out on the slopes before 10. The weather Thursday was less than ideal, about 19 degrees, windy and very foggy at the top. The snow was in great condition, she likes to stay on the greens and blues and it was all groomed, so although they had gotten 6" of new snow the night before, you couldn't really tell. The completeness of the grooming was a little disappointing, several of the blacks were ungroomed, but I stuck with her and didn't get to see them. It was more crowded than I though it was going to be on Thursday, but we rarely waited more than 8 rows deep in the lift lines. the slopes were not uncrowded, though, maybe it was because of the visibility, but they seemed kind of crowded coming down. The fog worsened as the day went along until it was almost unbearable. There was some kind of light freezing rain or something in the air, because by the bottom of the hill our goggles were covered in a thin layer of ice. We enjoyed it, though, and rode until the slopes closed at 4:30.

Friday brought warmer, sunnier weather and we took advantage, getting out a little after 9. The freezing rain closed down the high-speed quads, making the remaining lifts and slopes more crowded than they should have been. This was extremely frustrating, especially around 11, when lines seemed to peak. Most of the quads finally opened right around noon, except for the western territory, I'm not sure they ever opened. We went in for lunch, and came back out at 1 or so, and the singles lines were down to nothing and the slopes were much more open. I tweaked my knee around 2:30, so that ended my day, but Karrie kept at it until the lifts closed again.

Saturday we headed out to Elk River Touring, to get some XC skiing in while the slopes would be most crowded. Most of their trails were too drifted to be groomed, so with a bum knee the owner directed us to Slatyfork Farm where a friend of hers had taken his snowmobile to clear out some trails. It was a lot of fun, maybe 2 miles in trails at the most, but we had a good time.

We had planned to get some more XC in on Sunday, but my knee was bothering me too much and we just drove home. It was a great weekend, great snow everywhere, just a bummer to have an injury limit you.

We got Snowshoe lift tickets at Costco for $60 apiece, a great deal for sure compared to the window. A couple of our friends didn't use their pair of lift tix, if you are interested, drop me a PM and I can get you in touch with her.
