Err - just checked the WV Road Conditions site and it looks like Rte 33 is closed at Allegheny Mountain.

It also looks like Rte 32 from Harman to Davis is closed: http://www.parsonsadvocate.com/breakingnews2.html

What's the word from the ground over there? Hopefully the roads will be back open by tomorrow morning!

...it is not fit for man nor beast outside...dam dog tried to piss on the porch...visibility is zero...pounding snow, winds are strong...I'd say 30-50 sustained winds...I just talked to some buddies who work in emergency services and all roads are closed up here and they are turning people away before they get into the valley...nothing is open as far as businesses...this is as gnarly as I've seen it up here in a while...time to hunker down...

Hm.... not good.... I wonder what the situation will look like tomorrow morning. It sounds like the wind is supposed to die a bit but the snow continue.

I guess it is possible to have too much snow!

Tucker, do you think I'd be totally out of my mind to attempt to make it to the valley this afternoon?

...per the overkilled thread of similar name..I thought this never happens in the land of the Wild and Wonderful? wink

PS in full disclosure, a delayed opening at WT for wind...kind of like the Tram at Jay Peak.

...I don't know for sure K...I was just trying to add a little fuel to the fire...I really didn't talk to anybody...from my window it looks pretty typical to the rest of the storms, but they do have 32 closed I guess...

Looks like you can add US-50 and WV-42 in Mineral County to the list of closed roads...

K, in all seriousness I did just talk to some folks in the know and 32 is closed from Harman to Davis is the gossip...there are two state plow trucks stuck on 32 somewhere between harman and davis and there is a state plow truck stuck on cortland...I believe that is all of the county plow-trucks...I would say check with someone to make sure the roads are open before coming up...

From Dave Lesher's Weather Site:

Quote:
Feb 26 1000AM Currently light snow, blowing and drifting snow. Blizzard conditions continuing without letup since before 7AM with visibilities ranging from a few feet to less than 300 feet. New snow since 7AM 1.4 inches. Storm total snowfall 17.6 inches. Route 32 is closed from Davis to Harman and Route 33 is closed from Seneca Rocks to Harman. State of emergency has been declared for the Tucker County Highlands.

Yeah... I'd say it sounds pretty bad over there...

I made it to a half mile from CV Resort this AM before WV DOH turned around all traffic, sending us to Harman where they have set up a shelter for the stranded. I'm waiting it out at Camden's Corner Mart for the moment. Thinking about grabbing my tele setup from the back of the truck and hiking up under the power lines you can see from the road just past here. I've always wondered if that line has been skied before (I'm sure it must have been but never seen tracks). At least the Corner Mart is open, and they sell beer! It is very gnarly outside here I have to say. I'm glad my new bindings have the stiffest springs.

Tucker,
Keith and Maria heading up after Lax practice, still looking bad for the roads? Keith scheduled to open park Sat AM, but may not be an issue with this snow if it doesn't open. Just a pow day. May have to make the call and turn them around. First time we couldn't make it to the CV due to snow
thanks

Ray, The snow is still blowing pretty hard. Visibility is bad to really bad with drifting snow. I would not do that drive tonight, myself. I don't know what the road closure status is, but I know the plows are making laps on 32 now. I don't know what it is like outside of the valley. Tucker

Ray, Glad everything turned out safely. Still snowing this morning, but much calmer winds. Yeah I got back from tahoe about 2 weeks ago. Rode a 3-4 days at sierra, 4-5 days at kirkwood, day or two heavenly, day or two in backcountry, and a day at squaw. Squaw is huge! We had some great snow. I will catch up with you before the seasons out. I have a story or three to tell. Tucker
