(well, this is "local" to a local resort)

Is there anyone out there who owns a home outside a ski area in the Donegal, PA area?
I am trying to get an idea on renting options for homeowners:
-Use of renting agency versus doing it on your own.
-Housekeeping services and costs.
-Insurance issues.
-etc.

Any suggestions/reccomendations of preferred service providers would also be appreciated.

You can probably find a ton of general info on this out there in various places on the web.

Specific to the area you have asked about, I know a lot of people use Al Meucci:

I don't know them or work for them in any way. I just know quite a few people with rental homes in the area who use them.

HV has also started doing a better job of managing rental properties since Buncher took over. So if your house is in HV, you could consider using the resort.

One of the advantages of using a property management co. is that it puts a lot of the aggravation on someone else, rather than you. The disadvantage is that you pay for it. I could be off base a little here, but some property management companies charge as much as about 30% of the rental price.

If you do decide to rent your home, you would definitely want to let your homeowner's insurance co. (assuming you have it attached to your primary home's policy) know and they will almost certainly increase your premiums. I would also recommend considering an umbrella policy that would cover you on any liability issues that result from a renter.

Hope that helps. Good luck!
