Canaan Valley/Davis Mar. 6-13
March 5, 2010
Yes, it is finally going to happen. The Crazie family will be skiing The Valley the week of March 6 through the 13th (Sat-Sat) then we'll be back again for the Snowy Luau. I hope we can meet up with some follow DCSkiers and share tall tales. We'll be staying in Davis and we're up for skiing around. I've never skied Canaan, might even push down to the 'shoe for a day. Wisp too. Show us around.
I wouldn't recommend the Shoe. They aren't too sure what a midweek lift ticket is. At $75 a pop that will get very expensive real fast. Plus the skiing is better in the Valley anyway!!
I'm pretty sure that CVR has some sort of deal on lift tickets if you bring in cannned goods. Someone on here knows more about it. Have fun! Hopefully see ya for snowy luau.
Every Mon except Holidays ski Canaan on Mon for $10! (Can of food)...Yeh..whats up with SS..if you don't get a Lodging Pkg you pay out the ying yang for lift tickets!Canaan is Cheaper & less crowded than anywhere!
Ok, no 'shoe, not my idea. T-line is sublime.
The usual group of suspects will be there next weekend. The mrs and I will buzz in friday evening at be on the hill (albeit 8 am line up in ski school) before 8 am at t-line. You should have a great week since it's going to snow most of the time. I have to admit, I haven't seen so much snow in the valley, ever. Some of the old-timers talk of the 70s having snow like this, but I'm not a 70s old timer. The base in the trees is bottomless.
You will have a great time. Hope you get some warmer and sunnier weather.
Take the 9th off to rest because of rain till the front/snow comes back in early aft on the 10th..least thats what the models telling me...Going to be a great weekend coming up skiing in Comfortable conditions!...looks like I got another 8 hour dr Fri!
I'm planning on getting out there this weekend. Any interest in Whitegrass Sunday? Trail pass and rentals probably costs less than a lift ticket.

Do it, it is looking like a picture perfect weekend to be there. If the sunny fcast holds, the outdoor snow party will be ON in full effect...count on it!
Wow, I'd like to try Whitegrass but Sunday will be our first day so that's not going to work. We should have gone with our plans for last weekend, they got over 2 feet of snow. Maybe we can get together for a drink later on Sunday.

Hey Fish -
Looks like I'll be able to be in the valley either March 5th OR March 12 (but not both, sadly...) are the models saying there's a chance for a good snow event starting the 10th?
I thought Saturday was going to be your first day? Saturday lift skiing, (CV?), Saturday eve, dine at Whitegrass, and get the whole family set up for some touring Sunday! I'm not going to do it by myself, so Timberline Sunday is my back up plan. I could easily be talked into Wisp either of those days.
I need to get my Pilotes mounted and Whitegrass is the closest shop I trust with the job. So I'm driving out there. I'll ski wherever Saturday and Sunday, undecided.

It's looking like Timberline Sunday at this point, maybe Whitegrass Saturday...
Can I find some low to moderate angle untracked? I can't ski downhill on fast snow (skier packed) with the gear I'm planning to use.

I did the Whitegrass/Snowshoe thing last trip & this coming weekend with a New untried pair of Alpine Skis..I'm Cruisin on the "Cut" Slopes!
I'm just a Snookie (Snow watchin rookie) but the rain event advertised for early next week looks to be short lived..although there is still some Confusion with NWS, the GFS is hinting that Canaan can pull out its magic & actually mix some flakes into the event.
After that it looks to be smooth sailing till the 14th & then the 16th/17th which is what the GFS model that I watch says are the next chances for storm systems.
The Snowy Luao is looking like better than even chances to be good..at this point...stay Tuned!

yes, sat will be sweet. if there was ever a day for someone to come experience WG in all its glory...this sat is that day. looks like temps wont get above freezing till saturday sometime, so saturday should still be real nice off piste powder skiing at WG too. hell just come for the apres', the bbq grill will be goin and maybe some live tunes.
moderate angle untracked? without question! see it... ski it. head out to springer orchard fields and look left the whole way
