We are tossing around the idea of a weekend with relatives at Massanutten 3/19-3/21. I'm pretty conflicted right now. I would love another day on the snow, and I know my son would too. And I feel like the base is decent enough to last, but what do you think conditions will really be like with temps not forecasted to get below freezing between now and then? Riding in a 60-degree slush fest doesn't sound that appealing to me.

I did notice that a lot of low season rental rates just got extended from after the 2nd weekend in March (this weekend) to the end of the month. I understand they want to make more money while conditions last, but its almost another reason not to go.

I'd have to guess that it'll be bottomless corn unless they don't groom.

Going up this weekend. Will post an update. May not be until Sun if it rains too hard on Sat. Marz Jr. won't care because her college-age cousin (on the football team at Columbia) is coming. They'll have plenty of fun at the water park.

Great day for skiing at Massanutten because the drizzle stopped about lunch time. Even saw some sun! Once the snow softened up, there was spring corn everywhere. Pretty icy until about 10:30am though. Needless to say, not many people on the slopes.

Bumps remain on MakAttack and ParaDice. Big grass areas on the little terrain park, so it's closed. The CMB terrain park is fine. Saw several boarders playing over there.

Certainly going to be a lot more melting during the next week. While there will be skiing next weekend, I imagine things will be thin in spots.

Warm, a little sun, soft corn snow

Here's the report from Wisp - I've been here all weekend, and we did not get nearly as much rain as Baltimore and DC. We skied for 4 hours Saturday in a light mist, and skied from 9-3 today with no rain at all. Conditions are still excellent, the warmer temps and light rain have not diminished the conditions. Loose granular is the best description I can come up with. It is not slushy. The best part was there was no one here, we were up and down all day long, no waiting.

The base is still 4-10 feet, with the average around 5-6 feet. Nearly all slopes are open, one had to be closed because run-off created a crevice in the middle of one slope.

Drizzle and rain this morning at Mnut. Was clearing when we were leaving for home around 1:30.

All the runs were groomed last night, except the bumps on MakAttack and ParaDice. Since the low was well above freezing, the snow was pretty good even at 9:30am. They had big piles of snow near the lift loading and unloading areas. Ready to keep them set up for folks.

If you can find a season pass holder, they can get a lift ticket for a friend for $15. Also rental for $15. Note that during the week, only open 11am-7pm.

Thanks for the updates. It's a little bittersweet, but we have bailed on our plans. I do plan to get out a couple of times on my mountain bike this weekend though. The weather looks great (until maybe late Sunday when t'storms are moving in to the Richmond area). To everyone getting out this weekend, enjoy a few turns for me!
