I look at the current weather activity as a "cleansing" which we haven't had yet this year. We can expect additional snow yet, in the apps. I agree with Andy... fat lady ain't sung yet. whistle specially WV fat ladies.

I was planning on going to the NUT this weekend but the rain will probally kill the snow this weekend. The night temps are above freezing so I doubt they can even groom it.

WTG had some brown spots last weekend with all the heat, so I am sure those will get worse.

Probally still good at the Shoe for the while.

I am out west in three weeks!

NWS doesn't mention it but I think it will snow up in the High country late this weekend with some more early next week.

If the drummers can't pull in the Snow for the Luau they will at least keep the Rain away..Keep your Skis X'ed!

Up at Wisp this weekend, when leaving dinner, the Weather Channel on 8s in the bar caught my eye with snow on Sunday night. So Fish you are wise.

NWS has been vacillating between some snow and no snow for Sun PM and Monday in the valley.

Dave Lester reporting nearly 1" of rain so far (Sat AM.) NWS predicting nearly that much more is possible.

Trails will be fine. Unfortunately, the base in the trees will take a massive hit. How much, TBD.

Snowshoe still has gobs and gobs of snow. At the Shoe right now, the rain actually made things better. The resort was literally buried in the last month.

Just returned from the slopes. I can't believe they're closing Silver Creek tonight. The base at Snowshoe this year is what it was in mid-Feb. Yes, some runs have ruts and Knot Bumper is bare at the top, but most of it is from overgrooming. The Sawmill Glades are still skiable. And the temp right now is 34 with a solid arrow pointing down. So I'd guess we'll have snow tonight.

You missed a great afternoon of spring skiing today. Once the drizzle stopped at lunch time, there was spring corn everywhere. They groomed a fair amount, but there was plenty of icy patches until about 10:30. ParaDice and MakAttack still have bumps.

Season pass holders can get a lift ticket for a friend for $15, also rentals for $15. My college-age nephew is with us this weekend. So took advantage of the offer. On March 14, military folks get 4 free lifts. So they are expecting a crowd.

Great Pics Marz! Sure tells the story there.

Looks like NC has got the Colder Temps & Snow so far out of this System (up to 3 inches) with WV getting some light Snow above 3800 feet...Not much but at least the base is hangin!..still some good cold bottled up north with temps 30 below at Barrow,Ak & similar temps way up north in Canada...Arctic Ice is actually still growing (Slowly..But a good sign!) & the northern Hemisphere Snow Cover is a good bit above Ave...Bottom line is that we could still see a late March/early April surprise!

Still plenty of life at WTG (at least through this weekend). With the lack of overnight freezes, it's down to wet snow and slush at this point, however. I think most resorts in the region are in the same boat; even Snowshoe hasn't been dipping below freezing long enough at night for a real "reset" of the snow. If they do get a good solid freeze (at least 4-6 hours well below 32F) that will work wonders (just don't ski ungroomed snow the next morning until it softens up).

I have to take issue with the liberal use of "corn snow" in many descriptions. If it's not a frozen crust in the morning, then it's not going to transition to corn snow later in the day. You'll know it's corn by the importance of timing; too early and it will be frozen granular that rattles your teeth, too late and it will be slush. There's a magic zone in the middle where it's corn snow. Right now, the temperature ranges don't support corn snow. Snowshoe will get some this week though.
