Trying to decide between Blue Knob or Wisp (or mayyyyyyybe TL). GF says TL is too far to drive (it would require an overnight stay) for spring skiing, but if it's guaranteed to be *that* much better than the others, I might be able to persuade her.

Between the other two, is there a "better" choice?

Is it worth the extra drive to Timberline?

We really just want one more day!

I am going to make the day trip to TL on Sat.. From my house which is 15 miles or so west of you it takes me about

2:30 to Wisp
2:45 to TL and
2:20 to BK

You should add about 15 minutes I suppose. Don't be afraid to drive the extra minutes to TL.

Come and ski Tline. Canaan Valley Resort has $38 rooms. At that price, you could ski Sunday too.

Definitely ski Timberline. Come up Saturday morning, ski all day, hang out in the evening and def. be there for all of the celebrations. Stay at the CVR. Wake up & go home or ski & go home... It's that easy!!

Looks like I talked her into Timberline (it was the first place we ever skied together, 4 years ago... the pictures are HILARIOUS. We had no equipment, and we were a great example of what not to do, but we had a good time, and have logged over 60 days together since then, mostly in the last two years).

Are there special lift ticket rates, or anything?

Should I bring my older skinnier skis (Olins)? or my "do-everything" skis (Nordica Hot Rod Nitrous)?

What am I getting us in to? smile

Great, did you see the Colonel's post as to where we will meet?

.....meet at the Ski School Corral at 10:00, 11:30, and 1:30. The corral is over near the chair uphill from the lodge. Kim and Jimmy will definitely be there!

Look for yellow ribbons ties to arms and poles.

I have a weird day. If anyone wants a lift I am willing, but I am going to be there for first chair (assume 8:00am) and have to leave at 2:00 to be back here.

Not sure on route, its sunny so the route does not matter as much, my thoughts are

7-81-37-50-93/42-32 or
7-81-37-522-29-93/42-32

Not sure I want to head down to 55 (or whatever they are calling it now) and tempt the Wardensville, Moorefield, and P-burg revenuers and it seems longer to me anyway.

What's my fastest way from Leesburg? It looks like the 7-81-37 part is pretty well set, but if "shortest travel time" is my objective, should I go with 50 or 522 (as outlined above)?

Ahhhh, this is indeed the dilemma. Taking 50 all the way to Romney is 4 miles shorter, but with more twists, turns and one small town. 522-29-50 to Romney is generally a straight shot. It all comes down to whether there is a slow mover on 50 that you are unable to pass for a while. But others may have some thoughts.

Back in the Day I used to take the 522/29 route..No one took it back then but it was much faster than the 50 twist..Don't know if they have straightened out 50 at all since. If not, the 4 miles extra on 522/29 are still a bargain.

You guys lost me, as I could not tell you where 29 MEETS 522. 522 runs up to Berkeley Springs while 29 runs to Paw Paw. Almost parallel. does VA 127 enter into the equation, perhaps?

For whatever it may be worth, we ended up going 7-81-50-93/42-32.

I'm convinced there must be a better way from 7 to 50, though. That 15 minutes through Winchester (off 81 to 50) is a chore!

Scootertig,
Go north, not south, on I-81, Get off at the next exit going west. (US11/VA37). Keep to the right when 11 and 37 split. 37 will turn into a limited access highway. Get off at the exit for US 50 and you will have skipped right around Winchester. Just be alert to the fact that the hospital has it's own exit between the US522 and US50 exits. All highway driving except for a tiny bit when merged with US11

I went 66W-81S-55W-32N on Sat afternoon from Falls Church between 430-745pm, had a couple brief slowdowns on 66 close to town, then gorgeous drive, esp up on the new divided hwy section of 55 and around Seneca Rocks area. Almost stopped once to take photo of a guy fishing in the river (S. Branch of the Potomac) beneath the rocks. He had a t-shirt on, it was 630pm and still 70 degs, and I'm going skiing?? Got to Tline just in time to see the torchlight parade and fireworks show.

Sorry about that, yeah 522, 127, 29 then 50 into Romney. I went both ways this weekend and am convinced that from the "northern" part of northern Virginia this is the best route----at least until they finish 55/48 all the way to Scheer.
