Yes, it was warm, especially in the sun, and the snow did get a bit pushed around into piles, but DCSkiers and lots of others turned out for the first day of Snowy Luau. We were able to at least get GRK, The Colonel, Jimmy, David, Laurel Hill Crazie and Vince K together for some awesome runs, Jim K here now. And again, what a day, the drummers beat, the bonfire blazed, the torches worked their magic way down casting a red glow to the slopes, the wild whacky events went off with out a hitch, the Polynesian dancers shook and shimmied, and costumes were all over the place...Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts everywhere, a bear, a gorilla, a tree (!), a penguin, super skier and flapper girls. Lots of short sleeves, some shorts, new tans, and smiles all around, all the way up to the big fireworks finale.
I guess I'll have to go back for more today. I know, it is tough duty, but somebody's got to do it!
You should have been here, an incredible amount of snow.

Colonel, there was someone dressed up as a Yeti too!!

I had an incredible time yesterday. Skied moguls almost all day. Today I'm paying for it though. I feel like I've been hit by a truck! BUT, the bumps on OTW were great and the bumps on The Drop were AMAZING!!

I looked for everyone at 1:30 at the base, but didn't see anyone. I was probably in the wrong place.

Jana and I headed out shortly thereafter. We did manage to find KeithT (or, more accurately, he found us), so we had a good time skiing together for a few hours.

Sorry we missed you guys. It was a great day, even if it was really, really warm. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a late-season surprise, but I'm accepting the fact that yesterday was probably out last day for the season.

What a great day. I only was able to ski for 5 hours but never really took a break so I too am paying today.

First time at Timberline and it did not disappoint. Besides the great territory at Timberline I got to meet a group of DCSkiers. It was great meeting you Jimmy, Vince, The Colonel, Laurel Hill and David.

Still trying to get comfortable on bumps but Off the Wall was a great learning experience.

Thanks to The Colonel for encouraging me to visit. Looking forward to skiing with all of you in the future. Here are a couple of pics from my day:

Plenty of snow everywhere. Here is a shot of Off The Wall:

Not everyone had a good time. Looks pretty into that apple though:

I had a blast on Saturday. We did bumps on The Drop until we dropped. It was good meeting you all for another bluebird day at T-line. Sorry I missed you JimK but Vince and I picked cherries and bumps all day. I ran into Chip Chase on The Drop. He was on his rental touring gears from White Grass (no edges, vinyl boots) and he was ripping. The family voted for White Grass on Sunday. The snow was good, a few bare spots but really deep in places too. Granular conditions meant the glide was nice and downhill trails were quick. It made me appreciate what Chip was doing on this same equipment at T-Line.

I hope we all get at least one more day locally. Who is going where to extend the season?

Sorry I missed everyone.
Finally made it over Sunday morning for a few hours. First time to TL, so I spent most of my time exploring all the trails I could. Met alot of scout leaders (see red/yellow ribbon comment from previous thread) but did not see anyone from DC Ski. If you know my .sig, I was not hard to miss. Got to ski salamander twice, because it took them a while to open The Drop/OTW. White lightning ended up being the fave of the day. I think Twister closed for a while after an accident in the first tunnel.
Spent Saturday over at CV with my church group. Skiing was nice till it really slushed up, and then the western slopes were REAL bears with the flats. Alot more bare spots and think cover over there too. It was my first time skiing the majority of the hill, and I think my favorite slope ended up being upper lift line. Skiing on Sunday at TL was hampered by majorly sore legs from all the mashed potato skiing Saturday afternoon. With base repairs needed and pole baskets missing, it was a last ski trip for the year but a good one.

Sorry I missed it. Sounds like great fun in the sun, I love wet snow.

Props to the Crazie family for defecting to the nordic 'en masse'! I hope they enjoyed the tree bark granola as much as the others enjoyed the roast pork. laugh

Sorry I missed it also. I really wanted to attend but realized a few weeks ago it was not going to happen.

Down here, it was a wonderful Sunny Saturday at Beech Mountain. A lot of the same things but no hula. Warm sun, cool breeze, and a few nice soft bumps. Sold out of burgers and beer. Good social scene on the deck of the View Haus. Pond skim successful until it blew a leak. Great way for them to end the year.

there is normally some sledding up there after the season, but this year you could hike and ski any slope, and probably get a away with it.

the karhu 10th mountain isn't being made anymore either and is easily one of the best cross-country-downhill (xcd) skis ever. (Madshus is going to fill the void off those skis next year though i believe) white grass is selling off the rental rack now on em too....

Did they just discontinue the 10ths this year????, because Santa brought me a pair this past Xmas. Right on time for a good year in the DC area!

yeah K2 dropped Karhu. The xcd line should be coming back next year tho under the Madshus brand. Hopefully comparable to the 10th mtn.

WG has G3 Targa's on most 10th mtns on the rental rack (great tele binding)
