I know the consensus around here favors snow tires over chains. I'll probably be going that way myself next year.

However, while researching a roof box, I came across these. The Idea looks pretty interesting. Especially the way they pull themselves onto the tires.

They are crazy expensive though.

I bought some Cheap cables at Wallmart for my FWD Escape 2 seasons ago but Didn't need them till one weekend at the Valley this year. At 1st they seemed so hard & complicated because I just figured that they were..then after awhile I realized that they were pretty Simple & I was off & running! They were loud from 20 to 30 MPH but I think I can add a couple Bungy cords to tighten them up & smooth out the ride.

I think that I can match the amount of time it takes to mount mine compared to this new system curih. The quality might not be as good but i'll add that when I had my Cheapies on I felt like a big 4 Wheeler!

Our RV needs pretty specific tires and I can't seem to find snow tires (or many alternatives) to the stock Continentals. Its front wheel drive (built off a VW Eurovan chasie) and so has very poor traction (all the weight is in the back).

I picked up a set of chains and had to use them last year in the valley to get back to davis after a light dusting of snow. OMG. going up that hill was something else - thumpa thumpa thumpa. Thought the whole thing was going to shake apart before we got to the top. But we did get to the top. Something we couldn't have done without the chains.

I think I need to try harder to find some snow tires for the skimobile!
