From time to time I've picked up a ski patch from a closed ski area to add to my collection of vintage ski area patches. Although patches from closed New England and NY areas have occasionally topped $25 and even, in rare cases, $40, I can usually pick up a patch from a closed PA or NY area for less than $10. Not much interest, I guess.

In any case, a Buck Hill Falls patch went for $31 this past week on ebay. That tops what I'd usually be willing to pay. Maybe whoever bought it would be willing to post more information about Buck Hill Falls on the DCSki Lost Ski Areas pages.

It's a patch I hadn't seen before, and it's certainly a distinctive design. Does anyone else out there collect these kinds of things?

This certainly isn't a collection but I salvaged these patches from a moldy old ski jacket of mine I found recently. They are interesting as they are from the mid-70's and I don't think the 3 areas that are still open use these designs anymore. The 4th is from the lost Pittsburgh area "Wildwood Highlands".

Coerced my son to try on my 40 year old ski jacket with vintage patches:
stylin'

This shot was taken around 2009, teenage son wearing jacket that belonged to me around same age in the early 1970s. If you click on photo it will expand. Patches include Charnita (now Ski Liberty, PA), Stowe, and Whiteface. The latter two were acquired on a family ski trip to those areas for Christmas 1969. There is a lift ticket still attached to the jacket zipper from Aspen Highlands, CO dated March 1976. The red hat is also from 1970s. For a long time there was a 40 year old pin from Blue Knob on this jacket, but I started wearing it with my current ski jackets about five years ago. I also removed a Blue Knob patch about 20 years ago (see blank spot to the right of the Stowe patch) and put it on another jacket. Still have that jacket too, and the BK patch looks just like Robert's posted in link above. Sorry for blurry picture. I think the Stowe patch is especially cool, because though it was purchased new in 1969 the clothing the two skiers are wearing looks like 1959.

What's the oldest t-shirt you guys still have that was purchased as a souvenir from a ski area? My dang wife keeps throwing away my really good/tattered ones. laugh
