The day bought a perfect sunrise followed by a perfect day of skiing.

With the new baggage rules we had to rent skis this trip. The first day brought that hassle which went very smoothly and much cheaper than Delta was going to charge to ship our gear. (Next year Southwest!) After a quick stop at the ticket booth we were on the slopes around 0930.

Started the day on Peak 7. This part of Breck is wide open cruisers with a big group it always a good place to start. Unfortunately my youngest dropped his gloves off the lift. So begin the good dad I gave him mine and skid down to rescue them san gloves. Once recovered we skied a few runs here, my older son and I discovered Ore Bucket a black tree run hidden at the far end o this area. The snow here was nice and the drops fun. As a group we then move on to Peak Eight which has a nice mix of terrain but is always a bit crowed.

My oldest and I escaped the crowds by grabbing the high T-bar and skiing the Blacks of this lift toward the North Bowl. The wind was howling up here and scared some folks off. But once you dropped down a bit it was fine. We had nice runs on Piqa and a few others. I found my rental ski's a pair of 168 Nordic Six's very nice. There twin tips turned on a dime.

Once back with the fam we had lunch at Peak 8. I love $18 cheeseburgers! My 7 seven year old was spent and Grandma gladly jumped at the chance to bail early and took him back to the condo. My older son, my wife and I took off. My oldest is a wander at heart and wants to ski as many trails as possible to mark them off on the ski map with a highlighter. So off we went.

We headed for Peak 10 via a group on intermixed blue and black trails. We found some great runs off the Peak 9 chair. We took the E-Chair up to the top of Peak 9 then skied down to the bottom of Peak 10.

There was an Downhill race going on off the far side of Peak 10 so it kind of limited the terrain available over there.

All in all the snow was great but got slushy at the very low point at the end of the day. We covered a lot of ground and my son got to mark many a trial on his map.
2 days down 4 to go!

Sounds great.
Last three Aprils I've done a fun ski trip. Now I remember what it's like to stay home and read other's fun - payback's heck grin
Wild to read about threat of howling wind and cold hands without gloves. Temps going up to high 80s today in VA.

I guess if you have a whole family's worth of ski gear the baggage fees might creep up there, but I still think it's cheaper than renting for trips more than 2-3 days. I paid $40-50 roundtrip to check my ski bag on the trips I took this year. Rentals would have cost about $25 per day minimum.

get double ski roller bags and stuff as much gear and clothing in there as you possibly can, including rope and bungee cords for the rental vehicle - that will definately beat ski rental fees. of course, you might have actually wanted to rent something different, in which case, go for it!

t-bar and chair 6 are the best terrain at breck, but it sounds like you know you way around. got any pics ?
