first in perhaps a series, can you guess which dcski registered member this is?
guess who #1
1
Lucky guess. Thanks Jim, but obviously too young to be me.
The Colonel
Correct. The Colonel it is, at Timberline, WV, March 2009
This one might be a little tougher, who is the man on the right? Blurry shot adds a nice degree of difficulty:
guess #2
OK jim, I'll play.
Looks like that couple is at Liberty, ya?
I guess it's
Colleen K.
But who is that guy, standing around talking about stuff, but not skiing, just like an instructor or something?

guess #2 Nice try Jimmy. Right place, wrong people.
The Ski Liberty instructor on right, and subject of this guess #2, has written several articles for DCSki over the years and is a registered user since 1999.
Otto is correct.
You guys are good, but this might be a challenge:
guess #3
Very good! It is Tommo at Wisp on a beautiful Dec 17, 2006.
Who is the man in red jacket on left in next photo? He is proudly standing next to his late, great Dad and a map of terrain dear to their hearts.
guess # 4
Looks like guess #4 stumped you??
This famous and influencial individual could be easier:
guess #5

guess #5 That one's too easy! I'd recognize those BRIGHT green boots anywhere. I'll give someone else a shot though...
Looks like this famous beloved and inebriatable person is at the alta of the mid-atlantic, Timberline but
UNO wut jimk this IS fun but why does no one want to play?? this is the problem when the wisdoms in teh trees then dc skis there is no breeze and teh lack of breeze begins to breed the threads of our discontents.
It's a warm breeze you see blowing thru the trees, i feel a fever coming on, hotter than a pepper sprout.
sea ice, sea ice run.
I can not imagine anyoone having a two martini lunch and not folloeing that up with a nap. This is what happens when noone wants to come out and play.
Who, Who give us a clue, #4?
For the record, guess #5 is kwillg6, a renowned educator on and off the slopes.
Hints for guess #4: possibly the only registered user with a ski area named after their family
OK, a big clue for guess #4: this registered user ranks 49th on the list of all-time total post count on DCSki.
GUESS #6: actually a contest within a contest; who is this registered user and what is the best caption for this photo??
GUESS #6
Given the resort clue for number 4, is the poster's name "Jay"?

Just kidding, Must be Woody, named after Bretton Woods.
"Why, no, I don't get hung up on the frames of chairlifts, why do you ask?"

GUESS #6 #6? He looks kind of familiar. I must have got a picture of him after he shed his antlers.

Yes, with plenty of help from skier219 and others on this board, I bought a pair of new Dynastar 8Ks in the summer of 2008 and have skied them (with great pleasure!) the past two seasons. My first pair of new skis since high school. That purchase even motivated me to take lessons in January-March 2009 at Liberty.
By the way, the stix in that pic were an ebay special, a used (and too short) pair I bought for rocks and glop. I skied on them only twice (incl. a few runs at Bousquet the day the photo with my dad was taken) and then sold them.

Looks to me like 2 lucky guys getting a quality ski lesson from
one of the Mid-Atlantic's best ski instructors.
Jim,
Is that the lady from Canada (now lives near Charlotte, NC) skiing at Blue Knob?
The Colonel
Blue Knob fershur, if the first skier is who I think it is, they're all dcski posters with over two thousand posts combined.
Guess #'s 7, 8, 9: Jimmy pretty much got them; from L-R, GGNagy, David, RodSmith.
The rutting hotdogger pen's fan of guess #6 was never properly identified. Here's a better action shot:
guess #6.5

guess #6.5 Jim, everyone knows that's John "Hotdog" L.
OK, except for pagamony (he'll have to post his own) these Guess Who's should just about cover everyone posting in this thread.
guess #10 guess #11 guess #12 ALOHA
10 - Big Sister thinks it is someone bad.
11 - Wild guess by process of elimination, Jimmy.
12 - Linden Hollow Calm person
ALOHA - Mike Ditka
If I still have the attention of the gold and black...here is a bonus guess, who is this individual? He was one of the best dressed sports fans I've seen on the slopes in recent years and one of the largest. Could have been a member of the
Steel Curtain
Jim, I don't know if I ever thanked you for posting that picture of me. I look like I actually know what I'm doing.
Those days at the Knob were some of my best days skiing ever and that is unqualified. I always say it's not the hill, it's the thrill you get from good runs shared with good friends. I look forward to skiing with you and St. Vince again and hope to ski with all the DCSkiers soon.
LHC, feeling's mutual fellow powder freak.
I keep going back to the batch of Blue Knob pictures in this thread from Feb 2010 and just gaping at all the snow:
http://www.epicski.com/forum/thread/9414...le-air-force/30I hope it ain't so, but we could be in rocking chairs the next time there is that much snow around these parts.

Steel Curtain Hard to tell from behind, but is that a picture of him riding the MRG single?

I sure hope to be skiing more natural in the Mid-Atlantic hoping at least that Canaan's elevation will offer if the Laurel Highlands is not.
Give me a shout when you and the offspring are in Latrobe and we'll do a walking tour of Laurel. I can add a lot of Laurel's story as I know it and show you some of old Laurel, the slopes the Laughlin's (of then steel manufacturing giant Jones and Laughlin) and the Mellons shussed before departing to New England or Sun Valley, doing their winter social circle. Perhaps we'll run into Lowell Thomas there.
It can be a full 3-6 hour mountain hike or a quick 1 1/2 - 2 hour 'sight see tour' of some of Laurel's best terrain and features.
