Lost Laurel Mountain Rope Tow
November 28, 2010
Sorry, I'll try to re-size the photos and post latter.
hmmmmm You know. Ligonier certainly attracted alot of tourism with a reconstructed fort. The nostalgist in me would love to see a resurrected tow. Of course I also think a referbed Hall double would be a great lift.
Too much time spent on NELSAP this summer!
I dont believe it! I was up there the other weekend and walked rite over the old tow line and didnt even relize it! I usually notice stuff like that while exploring lost parts o\
f open areas or abandoned areas. also I agree with ggnagy. I miss the old fasion rope tows!
Make a great skinning track tho.
Yeah! :DJust out of Question is the thunder double lift @ HV a Hall lift?
THe old double at Laurel was a poma.
When it was refurbished in 1999 it got borvig parts and some others. Thunder at HV is is a Hall lift. THunder just passed a load test with no problems, it just runs at one speed and scares people.
imp
i love the old lifts but i can understand why people dont like them because they r use 2 slow and creeky lifts! also why r they putting those bars on top of the lift poles @ HV?
also lm has a lost tbar or something like that
A few T-Bar trestle are still sort of in place located to skiers right off of Lower Wildcat. Be careful skiing in there, metal debris abounds not to mention steep and narrow. It loaded by the old warming hut at the bottom of Wildcat. The lift was the first T-bar in the east.
hmmmmmm i thought it was on skiers left cause it looks like there is a bull wheel or counter weight at the top. also what is the purpose of the bars on top of the lifts@ hidden valley?
The T-bar was Laurel's first bottom to top lift. It was installed in 1955. The load station was a little uphill from the warming hut on the run out of Dream where Lower Wildcat ends. Facing uphill at the warming hut the T-bar ran to the left of Wildcat to an unload near the bottom of the current tubing run.
Prior to 1955 skiers wishing to ski Lower Wildcat would take a series of rope tows out of the valley. The first ran along the current Deer Path Trail and unloaded near the bottom Broadway. Skiers would then ski to point below Timber Top to catch the rope tows that served Broadway.(photos above in first post.)
