So a large group (between 10 and 20 people) of my friends and I have been visiting WISP each year for the last 4 and have a great ski weekend that is affordable. We especially love the newer, large homes built on the top of the mountain. We began going there because of the ski expo ticket deals, but now that it is gone, we get the Costco deal and always notice Snowshoe has the same deal, and of course a great rep on their snow/slopes offering.

This year we are happily at WISP (14 of us), but I'm already looking towards next year when we could have up to 16 or more going, all needed bedrooms. I thought I would look at Snowshoe for a change and I can't seem to find any rentals that are large enough, ski in/out or close to it, top of the mountain, etc. All the rentals seem very scattered as well unlike WISP with two or three main rental companies.

Is snowshoe all snowshoe owned condos and small cabins for 5 bedrooms and less?

Thanks for the info.

Don't rent through Snowshoe. Lots of different rental options out there.

Or you could come to the Valley so a real ski experience..........;)

Jeremy, I'd shamelessly plug my condos at Snowshoe Mtn Lodge but it sounds like you all want 1 big place near the slopes.

This guy rents thru an agency since he's on the left coast but here's his info.

http://www.snowshoehouseforrent.com

Also - There are usually a bunch of rentals by owner listed on craigslist.org throughout the season.

Good luck

Come on...there are tons of enormous (if not too large) homes/condos for rent slopeside or near slopeside @ the Shoe.
Renting through resort or independently really depends on the deals offered and your negotiation skills. Renting through the company can sometimes get you ski for free passes and a pack of Snowbucks worth $200.00 or more. Homes on Westridge Road can sleep 20 or more and be within walking distance or beside Shays and Cupp Runs with free shuttle service to village. On the basin side you have Camp4,Powderidge,Blackbear (which are huge)and slopeside. There is also Wistlepunk and the Sundown Hutches which are also slopeside and large. So if you are interested in the Shoe this year, there is no shortage of large vacation properties there. I know, I have owned and rented up there for decades. Good Luck and heres to a repeat of last years conditions!!

Try www.snowshoevacationrentals.com

Remax Old Spruce has several large Westridge homes for rent. Even some that are pet-friendly.

If you have tickets already, they can give you a better deal than corporate Snowshoe.

I've been to the 'Shoe a few times with large groups. The best was a large house on Westridge Road. We were only 4 or 5 doors down Cupp Run and made for a real nice way to start and end the day. It was also great to be able to easily pop in for lunch. I've also stayed with a large group in the town homes in Creekside (on the way to Silver Creek). Clearly not ski in/out but we've always had a good experience with the buses and there was a stop right out front. It was also easy to rent two side by side units which accommodated our group (for a bonus this means two hot tubs). The biggest and cheapest place we ever stayed at was down on the base of the mountain. This worked for us because we had a few non-skiers who were willing to be transportation captains but I can see where that would be less than ideal for some groups.

Thanks for the information everyone. I had checked www.snowshoevacationrentals.com but wasn't getting much when I compared homes. I then realized that I had selected ski in/out and they aren't listed that was. I guess there are quite a few on Westridge that could handle our crowd.

We are all booked up for this year, but maybe a change is in order for next year. I guess the questions are:

1. Most of the homes on Westridge are ski in/out even though they aren't listed that way? Maybe a short walk it looks like from the maps?

2. quite a few of the larger places on that site are still available, is that usually the case? Almost everything at WISP is booked up for that size by now each year.

To answer a couple of the other questions:

We usually go the weekend of Superbowl, leave Thursday night after work and return on Sunday before the game/party.

Last year was epic at WISP, it was hip deep and we spent a large portion of Sunday morning digging out the 4wds, driving home to NoVa and then digging in. We really like staying on the top of the mountain and gives us the Western Ski Resort feeling (I know houses are not on TOP of the mountains out there, but they aren't miles away on the bottom either) without breaking our budgets.

@Jeremy: Most of the places rented by Snowshoe are all booked up because they will rent to anyone. Many of the places rented by Remax (snowshoevacationrentals) are still available, such as mine. I think last year we conversed about the reason. You stated back then all were couples in their '20s etc., which is fine by me. Many of the homeowners do not permit undergraduate College students on their premises unsupervised. And since I rent with the aforesaid business, I would rather take the loss of business as well as the lower rates, rather than have three or four thousand dollars worth of damage to my property, which tends to be the case when you rent to undergraduate College students. As well, I take my unit off the market during College breaks, just in case...

re: Westridge Road and Ski in/out. I'd say very few are truly ski in/out. Westridge Road runs perpendicular to the trail Cupp Run so only a few houses are true ski in/out. With that said, the houses are close to each other, so it is a very short walk (< 5 minutes in ski boots). You should keep in mind that to ski out from West ridge you have to actually ski down a black diamond rated trail.

Jeremy, thanks for starting this thread, and thanks to all who've responded. Great information and links. The frustrating things about looking for SS rentals have been the relatively high prices plus the closet-sized "rack rooms" that just aren't what I'm looking for in the way of accommodations. Sometimes it's difficult to know what kinds of rooms you're renting.

I've skied SS only one day and would like to return with a group of 6 (couples, in our 50s-60s) for a few days this season. We'd need three BRs, each with a double or larger. I've found some good options here.

Don't do snowshoe's rental. FYI - I'd be happy to rent my 3-bdrm to a couple (IF I ever rented, but won't deal with all the damage), but SS wouldn't allow it. Their reserv. sys. it so computerized...DO use ReMax or Rent-by-Owner. Just figure, if going to SS (probably cheaper though to just go out West to a real ski resort) SS thinks 50 cents IS change for a dollar!!!!

Woody - your group is the type that every owner wants. You should have no trouble finding a place.

If you don't mind being across the hall from one couple I have a 2/2 and a 1/1 in Mtn Lodge.

Total = 3 queen beds, 3 full baths 2 "full" kitchens separated by an 8ft hall. Perfect if you want to stick that "friend that snores" a little farther away.
