They all blow, with the occasional exception of Blue Knob when natural snow is plentiful. But we ski here because we live here. Of course retired old farts do get to ski north and west from time to time. And, if you are willing to ski the backcountry you get fresh tracks. Fresh Tracks changes everything.
Snowshoe's Facebook says that guns were fired up this morning (but not blowing snow). Says they are optimistic for this weekends weather. Does that mean that Snowshoe plans to blow this weekend? IMHO, cold weather or not I bet they blow.

I'm heading down Thu night to do a little work on Fri and maybe Sat.
Hey David or anyone...my laptop could see the youtube link David posted but my new computer just shows a red X..what do I need to download on my new computer to be able to catch the link?
I'm hoping that someone is going to blow tonight... about the time when shoe/NC resorts start their snowmaking or at least blow for plublicity... for Shoe, nights for the next week should be good for snowmaking (minus tomorrow night maybe)
Too bad Tline and Canaan dont have the same mentality, each could have made snow for most of the day today... would be so much fun if one decided to be like Sunday River and go snowmaking crazy on one trail just to open it for a weekend (never going to happen)
I'm still not seeing any consistency in the Long Range but I'm still thinking Mid nov. We could see a serious start to snowmaking as late as the 17th to have a good T-Giving Ski..Shouldn't we?
You need to download the most recent version of........Ok, I've got no clue.
The x64-based versions of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition include a 32-bit version and a 64-bit version of Microsoft Internet Explorer. Both versions of Internet Explorer are included to increase compatibility with existing programs and Web sites. The 32-bit version of Internet Explorer can host only native 32-bit ActiveX controls and other 32-bit Web page objects. That be the problem!...I'm the smartest Burnout/brain damaged dude from the 70/80's you will ever meet! UH...& the 90's..into the 2000's...damage..i'm still partying!
I'm still not seeing any consistency in the Long Range
Agreed.... long range mods have been all over the place... that said, next 5 days or so will be fairly dry and more seasonal, if the above mentioned resorts so choose they could probably have 4-8 hrs/night of snowmaking (for example if I was shoe i might blow in a few focused areas in big piles that would have a better chance of lasting through ran/warmups)
nice to see! they should be able to blow a really good amount before it warms up a bit early next week. Possible that they will pick up 2-5 of fresh as well!
We will have to see if this is just a photo op or if they really go for it. The long range doesn't hold too many promises & they would have to really play mother Natures bluff to see if they can win the pot & cash in at T-giving!
Me personaly, I'm Thinking that Winter is coming in right around t-giving (& hopefully just before) for real & hangin on thru Dec...at least.
......I think it would really blow if timberline opens on dec 9 with only woods hole and nothing from the top. That would really blow.
and they will probably have some over zealous rusty making sure that anybody who ventures off trail will get their ticket marked . I wonder if it would be worth the trip especially with all the groups they would have on limited terrain.
Snowshoe's FB: "The snowguns are cranking (and have been since 7pm yesterday), we got a slight dusting of the natural stuff overnight and ParMar is now open at the bottom (gas, snacks, deli, beer). Life is good on the mountain right now if the COLD would just stick around."
EDIT: It's looking cold up there right now! From their Facebook.

4 out of 5 storm systems are heading up just west of the mountains which is typical of El nina but that means we are on the warm side & like I posted a while back we will have to wait for the backside cold rush which gives snow to the highlands & just wispy clouds & snowmaking temps for the lowlands...We will Survive...sing it with me!.."
Forecast was 1 day too early( we had a half inch the day after t-giving) but the man made brains sure had a good handle on this cold/snow event all the way back even before the 14th of nov when I posted that info...Weather models are Amazing!....next stop on the storm train is the 1st then the 5th...stay tuned!
Looks like WTG got a couple days in on Dobie, Eagles Swoop and Lower Wild Turkey...not sure where they put their new guns but maybe we will see the Highlands open earlier than normal? Weather looks 2 warm for snow making for a couple days then it looks to drop again.
GRK, I hiked this fall across the central sections of the slopes from the Highlands over to the adventure center area. When crossing Dobie/Xtrail (not sure of names) I noticed three new gun placements at the center line of the main slope heading up the the Inn. (just footers, wire and water at that point). How many new guns did they put in??
I asked in a Facebook post to their wall this summer and they replied they were installing 40 new guns. That sounded like a typo to me. I thought I heard someone else say on here maybe 10. So its either 10 or 40...guess we will have to wait and see.
In response to an earlier question, I have it from 2 sources now that the number of new snow guns at WTG is 40. Looking at the slope report they are blowing snow in the Highlands. If the new equipment is going to get the Highlands open earlier in the season then they have made a good investment.
BTW...my house to 7 Springs is a 5 hour drive, any opinions on whether it would be worth the drive this weekend?
...wow 40 guns is a great investment amid-atlantic ski resort...one thing is for sure this season and that is the way things are setting up with the weather it looks like more or less most all of the resorts started blowing around the same time...so we will be able to see just which resorts are putting there money where there mouth is when it comes to investing in snowmaking (seems every year resorts brag about better snowmaking)...it also seems that most all the resorts will be opening up around the same time...so we will see who is opening up with some real terrain and who opens up with the bunny hill...
Very right Tucker. It'll be interesting. Also, it'll be interesting to see whaich resorts will have made enough snow on advanced terrain to keep it open during and after the usual January thaw.

You heard it here folks...David is predicting no Jan thaw & a repeat of the 76/77 winter where the chesapeake froze over & the WV Alpps & Pa highlands got walloped with endless bouts of Lake effect & strong upslope snows...stay tuned!
Our big investment in additional snowmaking equipment this summer is really paying off. We are currently running on all 3 sections of the mountain including THE HIGHLANDS. No kidding, for the first time, we are making snow on The Highlands with plans to open it earlier than ever before.
