Ah Powdah!
December 10, 2010
I said I wouldn't chase this one, but I did. Having attended the last 5 or 6 Jack Frost parties at Whitegrass (always the first Sat. in Dec., pot luck) I just could not miss one. Naturally I threw my skis in the Thule box. Said I'd never drive Rt 93 from Mt. Storm to Davis in snow again and broke that vow too. Snow started in Scherr and it was close to whiteout in places after the power plant.
The party was great as always, several hundred people, many friends known by name, many more by face only. Great food, great beer and of course the bonfire and shotski. If there is anything skiable the next day I set a 2 shotski limit.
Got 4 runs on the open slope today. I booted the first, then went back for skins; it was deep enough. The snow was delightfully light and fluffy. I have never had better skiing on 6" or less. 19 deg., stiff wind, cold.
It's here!
Nice! WV continues to deliver...
Ya have a shot with Colleen and Dave? Never set a two shot limit, life's too short.
I'll be getting mine in the valley next weekend. And Wisp on Sunday.
It was pretty durn cold and windy here today in DC; I can imagine how stiff it was at 3K+. My last Sunday AM roller hockey until April, packed up the patio furniture in the shed, and raked the last leaves. Ski season begins!!!!!!!!!!!
I did have a shot with Colleen! Also worked with her on a trail crew once.
Denis, always good to see ya out on the snow...
Thanks Tom. Great to see you as well. I was hoping to see some others, Jimmy, Comprex, and the elusive Fish-n-ski.
Ive seen ya a couple of times denis but I didn't know what you looked like then.
I need to jot down the "no more than 2 shotskies" rule now that this year will be my 1st at the big 50
...I know Denis..your thinking...WAHHHHHHH!!...I'm going to send you to wambi pansy land you crybaby...here's a bok of kleenex for you ya baby!!
Dec 6 100PM Currently moderate snow and 13F. New snow since 7AM 2.1 inches. Snowboard swept. Drifting snow. Frequent blizzard conditions in snow and blowing snow.
You got out of dodge too early Denis..

I'm considering Wisp on Sunday, as well (how can you pass up $7 lift tickets?) - drop me a line if you want to meet up for some turns.
Welcome to the club Fish. Once past 50 you'll have occasion to call yourself a baby almost every day.
I'm well past 50 and looking forward to the next stage, cantankerous old bastard.

Hey John, I think there will be plenty of pochable stuff everywhere. It's just getting to it with the eager beaver rustys getting first runs as well. See you this Saturday!
Sunday was great - but - it kept right on snowing. Great powder is a rare thing in this part of the world. You have to pounce on it. Light fluffy, perfect, just waiting for the soft caress of ski bases. Damn. I just had to have more. So I did, Wed. and Thurs. I'd rather have those 2 days of perfect powder than a whole season of groomed slopes. It's a disease. Climbing for it is work for sure, but it also makes it more personal and more rewarding.
