Seven Springs is reporting a 24 inch base
December 29, 2010
Springs has received some consistent Lake Effect snow this week and has been blowing nonstop. They just announced night skiing is on for this Friday and Saturday. The forecast looks like some softening conditions on Saturday and Sunday then back to cold.
I always go to 7 springs.. supposed to head up Friday night but it seems they might not have the north face open?? Thats rediculous if true.. I suspect it will be very busy..
I have only been to hidden valley once when I was probably 14 or 15 and I don't remember anything about it. How does it compare to 7 springs for skiing?? Lift lines?? Significantly shorter runs? Fun natural obstacles?? I dont care about the apres or staying overnight, food, staff etc.. I just go and ski.. How's it compare there
I was there last Sunday, they had 3 slopes open (Tyrol, Stowe, Wagner) plus some green trails under polar bear express. Conditions were icy, lots of people, mostly a younger crowd. I had to stand in line for my season pass for 45 mins. They were blowing snow on Avalanche and the top of North Face, so hopefully they will be open this weekend. Im planning on going up on Friday. Also got a an email from them this afternoon stating midweek pass holders can ski this weekend too.
website says "Most of North Face open"... I'll probably be heading up on friday night and skiing saturday. I am praying that Gunnar is open, will alleviate a TON of the pressure on other lifts
--->> Anyone with any inside scoop on what 7Springs will have open on Saturday?
Anyone skinned up Boomerang, ever, and how long did it take you?
and actually just thought of this.... if NF does NOT open sat then pow turns should be amazing early saturday!!
well HV usually has much shorter lift lines than 7s. Skiing wise they have much less icy runs. Also HV isnt as windy as 7s. Yes the runs are much shorter than 7s. Also if you are a glade skier the trees between voyager are a lot of fun. also if there is enough snow the closed run underneath the thunder lift is fun. look for a small path in the woods thats how you get in.
Does anyone know if northface will be open friday?? it says most will be open by Saturday, I didnt know if that included some Friday

Dick Barron's video on 7 Springs home page says, only the front side is going to be open on Friday, with a possibility of North Face, Giant Steps and Gunner open on Saturday.
The snow report for today is saying that MOST of the NF will be open on Saturday. I'm betting that means at least NF, Steps and Gunnar.
For all night skiing only the NF trails and lift runs (no Steps or Gunnar lift or trails) so I am hoping Friday night will have NF trails and lift open. This will be the first time in awhile that the NF has been open this far before Christmas.
The trick to good Springs skiing is to get there early (like first chair early) then move to another lift instead of waiting in a lift line and know how to move from the front slopes to the NF slopes WITHOUT waiting in the Polar Express lift line.
For me the long runs are worth it. Pa skiing for me is just training anyway for VT, NH and the west. So long runs are what I need.
sweeet... cant wait for NF on sat
Hmm.. I guess I'll find out. I like to go on Friday nights because its a great reason to ditch work early and start off a good weekend, and the price of the passes is cheaper for night skiing. I guess I can deal with just the front being open, but NF trails sure would be nice. Last weekend was fun but it got a bit boring with only (essentially) 2 slopes and the usual trail.
Looks like all the Springs has all the Front slopes except for G bumps for today and tonight. DB's video is saying NF, GS and Gunnar for Saturday.
Also now the Sunday forecast shows only a little rain in the wee hours of Sunday morning so Sunday should be a good early ski too.
Amazing today at 7Springs... they did a great job opening up a TON of terrain (practically the entire mnt)
Skied the Springs Saturday and the packed powder was maybe the best ever at the Springs. I skied on my Blizzard 81's in the morning. For anyone who hasn't skied the Magnum 81's, you really need to. They are a real confidence building ski. Four of us were on 81's and the equipment report was unanimous - "That's one super ski". In the afternoon there was no crowd on the Gunnar lift so I skied my Monster 78's for lap after lap on Gunnar and Steps until my legs forced me to stop.
Sunday we got about 5 hours of light rain on the Ridge and then snow. Looks like we have gotten between 6 and 12 inches so far since Sunday, it's hard to tell with all the wind. This weekend at the Springs should be better than last.
Springs is now reporting 100% open! Looks like the entire NF is up and running, including Yodler. I plan to check out the night skiing tonight. As cold as it has been it should be awesome packed powder
Think I'm going tomorrow night... another ridiculous deal:
Seven Days of Christmas It says for a couple but who cares if its 4 dudes, we get 1 night life +1 day lift + lodging + breakfast for $65 per person??? Craziness
Better to be 1 dude and three lady friends!
Better to be 1 dude and three lady friends!
Would be nice....
Conditions at SS were excellent last night. Skied about 2.5 hours then had to get warm. Temps were in the mid teens. Avy and Tyrol slopes were classic Vermont like light packed powder. Which made carving seem effortless. Skier right on Avy was ungroomed and in amazing condition. G bumps was groomed. NF slope was more granular with some white ice spots. The snow is very fast. Looks like a slight warm-up for Saturday and Sunday.
Seven Springs was all about cold temps and lots of packed powder on Saturday and Sunday. We skied the NF slopes only on Saturday and on Sunday we skied the Front and NF slopes. Some unbelievable December conditions on NF, Little NF, Steps and Gunnar both days and the ungroomed runs were also soft and craveable. The Ridge continues to receive just enough snow each day to keep the slopes refreshed and perfect.
Conditions at the Springs continue to keep getting better each day. Skied last Thursday evening with a bit of a crowd, but skied morning and early afternoon on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with only a light crowd and fantastic conditions. Monday on the other hand was ski or die conditions with high sustained winds and ugly gusts. Looks like a warm-up through Saturday and then a drop on Sunday is on the way.
