On the Timberline website it pointed out that the were doing trail maintenance in the old Cherry Bowl area. Does anyone who was up there last weekend have any information as to whether they have reopened this trail?

was it closed? whistle Maybe for the summer. I haven't been in there since the end of March. Wouldn't go back in until there's a couple of feet of bomber base which could be now. Maybe Jimmy, JohnL, or Tucker would know. I did't get up last weekend.

Link was forbidden when I clicked on it? Maybe because that's classified information that I don't have a high enough clearance for?

I put in the pic, but now it's not showing up. This must be very sensitive/Wikilinks type material here.

It was closed for a number of years. May still be, officially that is wink The trouble with it is that it wasn't cut by skiers, it was cut for timber to help Tline pay bills. It has been way over thinned. Most often when ski areas cut glades and put them on the map, they are over thinned. Jay Peak is a prime example. A few of their glades are good, Kitz Woods, Canyonland, a few others; most are not.

Thanks Denis. Guess I didn't have my sacrasm emitter turned up high enough. wink

If I remember correctly, it was a gladed trail before the logging to pay bills happened. I believe the funds went mostly to replace the cracked foundation on the terminal tower of the Triple. It was closed after the loggers left a rather large mess in there.

I'm not sure here, was it orginally cut to raise funds or was it cut as a glade? I seem to remember it being
much cleaner before it was logged the last time.

Can anyone tell me what trail you would drop in to this run? Maybe between The Drop and OTW? Thanks.

..the cherry bowl was once open but is now a closed area after they harvested the trees...there are lots of tree tops remaining from the harvesting of the trees and deadfall that are extremely dangerous when snow covered...It is well known that if one were to ski in this closed area your skiing privelages/lift ticket may be revoked and one could loose one's privelages to ski on the mountain indefinetily....

That's why Whitegrass's woods are the best. We do trail work there, every year. Over the years many woods runs have been made and manicured. They are flagged with surveyor's tape and you will see piles of deadfall collected and put in one obvious place to the side. The runs themselves are cleared very well. There are no stumps protruding above the ground; no pungi sticks, nubbins, or whatever you want to call them. We even throw rocks off to the side. Plus, the lines are more aesthetic, they were made by skiers. Come out and lend a hand next fall - maybe make your own line.

On good snow days you are sure to get busted in there since half the ski patrol is in there "patrolling".

DCSkiers be careful. Tucker knows, TomH too. The reason the patrol patrols is to make sure Cheery Bowl is still extremely dangerous when there is snow in there, pungi and rocks and stumps OH MY!

Myrto i lol'ed myself when i saw that they had increased "trail maintenance" in Cherry Bowl Glades. They are probably referring to bike trails.

I would not recommend skiing in the woods anywhere. It is far too dangerous and you will wreck your equipment or worse. Please, please stay out of the woods and keep on the groomed. You will be much happier for it.
