Kalame??
2 day storm total..20.4 inches..recorded at 3715' canaan heights by NWS obs man Dave Lesher.

Canaan Valley is right up there with Stowe & Jay peak (they had 15 to 20 inches before canaan saw a flake)...Canaan is above killington & the New Hampshire resorts snowfall wise at this time frame...
Real snow real mountains 140 miles as a crow flies due west of the Nations monument...A sleeping Giant that not too many folks want to wake up...Not to mention Mount porte crayon which would make the canaan areas seem...PUNY.. but cute & affordable!

Andy: we just got up here tonight. Snowing like crazy. Near white-out coming up from Harman on 32! Glad I decided to get off Corr H at Mooorefield instead of treking to the end and making my way up 93. I suspect 93 this afternoon and evening would be indistinguishable from the snow drifts on its shoulders with all the snow coming down. I am confident we are looking at 20-24" from this storm at least - and next week looks even better! Ice Station Timberline, at 3300ft near the foot of mighty Herz Mountain, is reading 7 degrees at this hour but very little wind. Tom

Everything seems to be "right on the money" on the above weather link, except that the wind is gusting at 40+MPH on Route 32.

Vic: Au contraire, mon ami. Wind measurement is accurate. Pretty calm down here on the Valley floor though we've recorded some gusts up to 15 mph. For comparison, here's the link to the weather station at Canaan Heights at 3850' - definitely more wind but nowhere near 40MPH.

Hey tom,(whats tom in french?) good to hear ya made it safely but you knew what you were doing being a seasoned vet on the Western Front!!

3715' cked in this morn with a 23 inch storm total so far & I just cked with my snow plow dude down at 3000' just south of the valley & he says its still snowing..energizer snow bunny type..

Here is a report from the southern Alpps as of yest aft...

This report from Joe Winfrey (THANKS!) was so interesting it's worth just copying here:
"Roan Mountain Village 12"
Roan Mountain State Park 14"
Burbank 15"
Mile marker 5 on Hwy 143 19"
Mile marker 3 on Hwy 143 23"
Mile marker 2 on Hwy 143 25"
Near the Roan Summit on the NC/Tn line 30" plus with drifting snow in many places 6-10 feet and more. The winds at elevations above 5800' were just too high to make for an enjoyable jaunt. These readings were all taken on the Tn. side where we are surrounded on three sides by the NC border--essentially the north and northwest slopes of the mighty Roan. This compilation is as of dusk Saturday

I hope this link doesn't update & stays at this time frame which shows pretty clearly how the moisture is coming off of Lake michigan & gets banked up with the thickest Clouds right around Canaan valley...you can see the moisture off of Erie hitting SW PA further north...Erie is getting ice covered on the western end that the valley gets a feed off of sometimes..but that is slowly getting choked off..

I like those links you posted Mr B & i see where the Map, even though I know is not perfect is trying to show the nice snow cover up at canaan hts & also where my camp is...the cove tucked in between pointy knob & Wiess knob with the dolly sods & the roaring plains as the backup...nice..

I had to laugh this aft after seeing the NWS issuing a Winter storm warning for tucker Co even as the last flakes were falling from the nearly 2 foot dump we just got....

NEXT!!!

How bout I start off with The "Global Warming" Dumpage down here in the Land Down under (DC/MD)..The gateway to the Subtropics....2 inch an hour rates for about an hour & a half this morn before it turned to sleet!...You should have seen the carnage in Downtown Wilmington,nc..

As far as the Endless Winter storm watches for the.."Highlands' as Tucker Calls em sick..that is such a Lame discription of..MOUNTAINS (I was going to get more vulgar but stopped myself)...It is hard to figure out how much will accumulate in what will be another 3/4 day event.

The Nam model looked like it was a little out of whack the last go around but it was on to something so I am tending to think that we will see the 16 as opposed to the GFS's 8 to 10..
The Nam actually has a honey Spot just SW of SS that has up to 20 inches, so after its all said & done up there with the main low & then all the backside stuff we could be looking at a foot & a half up in the heart of the 'WV ALPPS' since the models just generalize the elevation locations & cannot really pinpoint the bullseye..

& then theres the snow right after that...

I'm not sure the last storm is over! It was snowing when I left the Valley last night and the NWS is calling for 2-4" today, 1-3" tonight, & 1-2" on Saturday. Then more snow.

See the end of your post?...Then match it with the end of my post 4 days ago...(Scot right?)
the snow last night & f-casted snow (For the WV & SW PA areas) is from Moisture that has come over from the pacific & is affecting us in mini clipper type forms so they are not from the other storm..they are FRESHIES!!..Allthough, those f-casted amounts are from the Pittsburg NWS & not from the Charleston,WV NWS which should tell us that the "Mini Clips" Have/will be shaving north. (Trace at SS with a couple of inches at canaan last night)

Being a numbskull & just looking for the long term trend since you really have to know what your doing to break down the nitty gritty on storms almost on top of us..I will only say that we are looking great Medium long term range & that after a little warm air from our south over riding the cold in place early next week..giving us what?..MISHMASH!..we will then get back to snow...its all
Good.
I fear that we are getting Spoiled!!!

Hey david..hows the missus?..you Have'nt been missing too many classes forest gumping thru the Countryside have ya?..hope things are bumpin along & a belated Happy 25th to ya sick

I Have'nt been paying too much Attention to the short term since we just seemed to be in a snowy pattern..(which by the way has defied all la Nina predictions!)..& it was just starting to get Studid trying to figure out each event..(Its snowing now a little)

I did start watching this system last week, not so much for any snow but the chance for some really brutal cold that I was not going to envy anybody being out in but that scenerio seems to have been weakened a whole lot (I Have Temps from all over the northern hemisphere logged in as Favs & i didn't see the cold they were talking about)

It looks like a quick decent snow hitter though but i'm not going up to SCWA's snow amounts..i'm thinking 8 max...there will not be this big backside snow this time.

Are you Sorry you asked David?? smile..TMI??...should we be depressed if we don't get another Foot??...Please..

Valley lost about 4+ with the rain per my contacts (less loss than I expected), so 8+ would reset the base nicely.

No, not sorry. I'll be at Snowshoe working the AM shift. I'll check back in and let you know just how much they pick up. The local weatherman here says 6-12". Hoping for 12.

Does this "local weatherman" get paid to make a prediction like that...6 to 12?...Thats a large spread so why waste our time with a snow amount prediction & just say that its going to snow..could be a dump but then again it could just be a little...& then still just leaving you hoping anyway.

Man up Weather Dude..quit being Wishywashy!

Yeah, he gets paid. Probably half decent money too. What a sweet job to have huh? Sit around all day and stalk people on Facebook, put a suit on at 6 & 11 and stand up and make a few guesses. Why didn't I sign up for that?

BTW, the local weather guy was right the other day. Snowshoe and the like definitely picked up around 8" or so by Friday morning. My on the scene reporting (tape measure in hand) confirmed that.

Been out of the loop the last few days since I have been in FL moving Pop (Oldski timers) out of his home. Anyway...
you should have read my post snowbuck, saying it would be a QUICK HITTER..but a decent little Drop of 8 inches Max which the Alpps recieved (6 to 8 across)..
Yeh right david..your local weather man got it right laugh..how could you go wrong with a 6 to 12 F-Cast??..that would be like widening the Hockey Goal posts by 10 feet for Johnl to score in..Even he could Score then!!..Jus playin JL..

Havn't had time to study the storm you linked David..But if you remember I posted to you last week that you would be asking about this Storm just about the time that you just posted about it!
You or anybody else can have the Storm chasing posting Job..Believe me..too much work!..i'm getting ready to retire to just being a Lurker..(Famous last words)

There are a whole bunch of weather models out there & after cking out a # of them I decided that this ones my fav..
http://raleighwx.americanwx.com/models/ggem/00zggem850mbTSLPp06072.gif ...Bullseye on Canaan valley!
The canadian has been the most consistent with the bomb out Nor'easter with the american GFS kicking it out to sea a little..BUT..latest runs seem to be pulling it in closer which is good news for snow lovers/skiers.

I'm going to go out on a snowy limb & feel pretty comfortable with a ..Drumroll please...8 to 18 inch F-cast for SS up to 7 springs with CV being the focal point as always for me!! (Making fun of Davids local weather Dude with the large spread)...A more typical wetter heavier east coast type snow..

PS..Stowe, VT
-26.3 °F
Clear
Thats at 4am..could get colder...Thats Slam Damage cold!!

...several different reports of -17 F to -20 F on Cortland Road in the Valley this morning around 7 am...I heard a report of -23 F at Mount Storm...it was easy to see all the smoke from the fireplaces and wood stoves huggin' the valley floor, smelled good...it was a cold start with the power tools this morning, but it made the 30 F afternoon feel tropical...
