If anyone is in need of $25k in copper wire I know where you can get some. Also for sale - a pair of Vokl skis and a Chevy pick up truck.
Yes, we here at 7Springs Discount Center can meet all of your needs at a price you can afford. Also for sale, some slightly used police cars which are no longer needed.
Very funny, SnowSmith. Don't be surprised if this information is soon redacted from future police briefs. Since 7S is by far the largest employer in Somerset County, they carry a lot of weight and may "nudge" the Daily American not to publish any negative info such as this.
The fact of the matter is, these types of petty theft occurred a lot, even before Nutting. It just never was made public. Now, obviously, it is.
To be fair, I'm not sure how much influence Bobby had with regards to the police force being disbanded, but if I had a $100 million dollar investment that required a "family atmosphere" to keep people coming back, I'd make damn sure that a police force was funded. I know the homeowners did pay for at least some of the police force funding.
I'd be interested to hear from any 7S homeowners on this topic to gauge their feelings.
Good one snowsmith
. But seriously if your gonna run PAs largest resort that has a long history of many thefts why wouldnt you pay for a police force or make it even better? I blame nutting.
We homeowners at Hidden Valley have HVPD and we pay for it. My busy body neighbor called the HVPD on me because my dog kept running up on her deck. It didn't matter that she kept throwing food scraps out on her porch. I was waiting for the neighborhood bear to show up on her deck.
I have been a fugitive from justice ever since...yes me and my dog Leo are on the HVPD most wanted list.
Seven Springs on the other hand is like a small city an needs a police force of some kind. All those rowdy snowboarders! Of course all those taxes we pay has to get us something in return. We don't get much for out tax money at HV.

Did I ever tell the story here of how my 5-pound Yorkie got on the USPS 'dangerous dog' list?
snowsmith -- I have to ask, what kind of dog is Leo? My golden's name is Leo. So I pretty much automatically like any dog named Leo. He's been known to be spotted on the slopes at HV from time to time.
comprex, is there an actual story, or is just the typical USPS move where they label the dog as vicious so the mail person can throw your package at the top of the drive rather than having to get out of their car??
"7S Dirty Laundry" - that's tidy whities compared to Snowshoe laundry. Intrawest emasculated their police force years ago...if you have a drunken brawl, robbery, whatever---all they can bring is a pen to take notes! Visitors won't know they are subject to more Wild then Wonderfull till its too late. They've even driven off the Courtesy and Safty Patrol that were volunteering for FREE!!! And that's just airing a pair of dirty socks compared to the rest of it!!!
No dogs, but I had a cat once that was once in the police blotter as having thwarted a burglary attempt. He also deterred the police from getting any further than the robber. No stranger tangled with 'Muffin'

Is that your dog that's always on Continental chasing people?
Leo is a little brown ddog, very, very smart, weighs 25 lbs and is a mix of Jack Russel and Manchester Terrior.
He loves going on the slopes and has incredible leaping ability. He is a great dog ...wouldn't harm a flea. Best dog I'v ever owned.
Feel bad for those who have been violated, but trust me, with Holiday weekends upcoming plus summer concerts and festivals where libations flow, in the infamous words of BTO, "You you you ain't seen nothin' yet". Again, it's happened before and is sort of in the culture there, but now it's being aired.
Names of some of the violated listed in this article:

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/regional/s_717777.html"I know it may sound bad, but I think it may be about average," spokeswoman Anna Weltz said.
She noted the resort offers ski check areas, which are manned by resort personnel, at three locations. One is in the hotel. Two are near the ski lodge, one near Emo's Pit, and the second near the rental shop.
"The check fee costs $2 per day. So you're talking about a $2 investment to insure safekeeping of a $500 snowboard," Weltz said.
By the way, these stories are making local TV news also.
"The check fee costs $2 per day. So you're talking about a $2 investment to insure safekeeping of a $500 snowboard," Weltz said.
Perhaps 7S could invest in a few employees to run a FREE ski check to avoid negative publicity.
I always check my board, especially at WT and Lib where it's a free service. If I don't think they have a check or if it's more than a couple of bucks I have my own board lock I carry in my pocket. It's a basic cable lock so it won't stop someone with a set of wire cutters but I really just need it to stop the opportunist. I've used it to lock my buddy's skis too, just run the cable through the heel lifer on the skis and we're good to go. Gear thieves should be castrated or given boots 3 sizes too small and gear with the dullest of edges and be made to ski/ride the steepest, gnarliest most heinous terrain available for 8-10 hours.
Is that your dog that's always on Continental chasing people?
No, mine would be the one that hangs out where Rambler and Combat Hill split. Though truthfully he is getting a little old and isn't on the slopes as often these days.

Keep in mind that Nutting is saving the money to upgrade the Pirates pitching staff for the coming season.
And still more negative coverage...
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11015/1118248-455.stmYour score through 3 completed innings:
Seven Springs - 41
Hidden Valley - 6
Seven Springs has really increased their team speed this year based on the amount of steals so far this season.
LOL Somebody get me up off the floor..
"There's a possibility that the thieves were wearing ski masks.
" LOL LOL LOL
But I AM miffed that Snowshoe isn't even in the race!
On a serious note, Ms Weltz from Seven Springs needs to get her story straight. This statement is from the Somerset Daily American article a couple of days ago.
"This is average... It's sad but true. Theft is common at ski areas," she said. "The state police patrol and we've beefed up security. The numbers look disturbing, but it's average.
Now with all of the recent bad PR, I guess she was told by upper management to make it sound like theft has increased and that this is just an unusual spike.
Ms. Weltz said the resort was no stranger to thieves, but that the recent number was unusually high.
And by the way, the PA state police don't patrol like a muni cop would.
How can you tell when somebody's stealing something? Every skier or snowboarder walking to their car with skis or snowboard in hand is a potential thief. In Seven Springs defense, the only way to prevent this type of theft is to attract a different clientele.
Because anyone 80 and older skis for free at Seven Springs -- the former owners bumped it up from 70 -- Mrs. Corrin can ski anytime she wants to.
I don't know what upsets me more, Social Security retirement age going up or ski free age going up. Geez, at my rate, I don't know if I'll make 80.
...the only way to prevent this type of theft is to attract a different clientele.
You mean like from Hunter Mountain. NY...the Pawn Stars/Jersey Shore of the North!?! They'll even steal your LOCKS! LOL
Just got done reading the past several "Police Briefs" in the Somerset Daily American. Not one mention of any criminal activity at Seven Springs. Bob Nutting and his crack security team have amazingly, in about 2 weeks time, snuffed out all thievery at Seven Springs. Way to go Bobby.
Hate quoting my own posts, but here I go anyways... from about a month ago in this same thread.

Wow Dave. I think you have hit on something here. We can solve all of crime problems in this crime ridden country of ours by just not reporting about it. Out of site ...out of mind. No more crime problem.
My son and I skied 7S yesterday. Nice temps allowed us to grab a burger and eat outside at the Pit. We sat right next to our gear.
WTAE in Pgh reported more thefts on the 6 AM news this morning (2/14/11).
The only thing new about all these thefts is that they are now being reported to the State Police since 7S no longer has their own police force and therefore make it to news reports.
I have been the victim of a few thieves at 7S over the years so this is not a recent problem. I had my daughter's skis stolen years ago. These were child's skis. my wife and I locked ours but I never would have thought that skis for tot would be taken. I had my wallet lifted right off the table where I sat during a lunch break. Never leave your wallet on the table and turn your back for a second. My wife had gloves taken in the same manner.
Seven Springs is a huge destination resort. It is not a place where everybody knows your name. Pittsburghers may think of it as their home, friendly mountain but the crowds on weekends are huge and impersonal. Wise up, never leave your gear unlocked or unattended.

Probably lots of "Pros" there.
This is one professional who won't ski 7 Springs on Saturday ever again.
I skied there once on a Saturday and it was scary. Too many skiers on the slopes all skiing at the same time. I felt like I was sking on the PA Turnpike. I thought of installing rear veiw mirrors on my helmet.

Maybe there are lots of PROS there, and it will be more exciting.
Thats bs. Since when is there significant crime in somerset? 7springs probably makes up 1/4 or more of the crime in somerset county. I think the police are lying because remember 7s is the largest employer in somerset county.
