only a free heel and your personal dual quad lifts will allow you to ski here! on a long exploratory mission we found a wonderful little stash that was fairly steep! (next time...glades)

Judging from those pics you were about mid mountain on one of the clear slope Fingers that spill off from the side of the main summit.
I usually am looking up at those fingers from my ski camp which I can see from one of your pics.

Back to those cleared out runs..there have been endless discussions about how the wind would shave off all the snow up there which is why a tree/Spruce line or 2 would have to be planted down the fall line to "Farm' & trap the snow..i'm sure that there are endless stashes in the woods off of those areas but up in the main bowl above & to the south of where chaga & crew were...NO WORRIES..

But that Mtn is just an Alpine skiers pipe dream ATM & belongs to the Hardy like the backcountry boys that post here..good for them & maybe they will let me & tag along one day!

..I would need a couple of sherpas to carry my stuff though blush...

Oh & PS..The lower knob next to Wiess is the top of the Canaan ski area. You cannot see bald knob from there..(unless thats the Barely visible slight bump between the 2 knobs)

Thanks for mentioning the statue Mr GGNagy..as new folks come on board & time keeps slipping into the future, its nice to have flashbacks...allthough with my past ..Flashbacks are common shocked laugh

That statue sits on top of one the thickest & most unpenetratable mountain top spruce forest around..which is why I have said that no one has actually skied down from the true summit of MPC.
This statue will only be unvieled only if & when the top is cleared for what would be the crown jewel of skiing south of mount mansfield & Jay peak,VT.

Calling West virginia "the ski state' without MPC as a Ski area would be like calling DC the nations capital..without the Capital blgd!

Sorry for the partial hijak Chaga..but you never follow up with comentary!!

the two highest and closest knobs you see on the right are weiss and bald knob in the frost line.

you know, this has kept me up at night and has caused me to look real close at the original size pic at the surrounding aspects I know. (and maps for other places to ski!)

For example.. in the bottom pic you see Canaan Mountain, which defines the western side of the valley, straight ahead in the distance. So even though bald knob is 100' higher than the top of canaan ski area and right next to weiss knob also, from the aspect the pic is taken from it would be hidden. (unless i was higher up on mpc)
Damn, I think you are right fishnski and surprised you haven't tried to argue that fact.

Believe me Chaga..I had plans on coming into the Shack with Topo in hand to discuss the matter with ya but i knew that a dude as Smart as you would come around.
If you had taken the pic a little higher up you would have seen all three knobs..U Da Man!

Dusting off some history. Andy in 2004:
Quote:
My sentiments exactly! Now how would you feel about 2 Timberlines one on top of the other with modern lifts??MPC & "almost heaven" Do us RIGHT Mr. BRIGHT!

JR (haven't seen him in these parts recently) responds:
Quote:
If that thing ever does happen it will be the short and stubby version or just almost almost heaven and andy'll be yelling for Intrawest to buy everything and open the entire strip from Canaan to MPC to Tory to Snowshoe to Winterplace to Beech to the beach (using the new snow magic over 60 degrees system of course) so he can just take the lift system straight from deep sea fishing instead of driving to the old Timberline slopes system of "Almost Heaven Fo Sho". This place will be measured not in mere vertical feet but Latitude Miles and have a huge statue of andy at the highest point. They'll even extend Salamander the length of the resort so andy can get back to the beach with one run. They can build a bunch of condos and sucker beginning snowboarders onto it, not providing an outlet until they push the entire Latitude Mileage of the resort, get to their condo, or get abducted by those West Virginians in the movie "Wrong Turn" at mile marker 200.

Classic Thread

Also, was "Moonshine Mountain" a RogerZ or Andy dream?

Maybe the funniest sentence ever typed into DC Ski. I still snort Mountain Dew at that one.

And too long for a signature. Dang!
