The FAA has issued a travel alert for Pittsburgh for Sunday, January 23. The agency anticipates the catastrophic crash of jets, due to a massive steel curtain. The FAA further advises, however, that this alert does not apply to air traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport. The only jets at risk are the ones attempting to land at Heinz Field.

In my observation there are just 2 teams in the NFL that almost nobody hates, Pittsburgh and Green Bay. I can understand GB because of the small town & fans owning the team, but have wondered what is the secret with Pittsburgh. It seems that all the other historically good teams have legions of haters around the country. I hope the Steelers kick the Jets butts.

Snooki and her friends would like to speak to you outside of Timbers, K-Will.

Taunting like that will get you roughed up in the Northeast. Be glad you're a Southern boy; only reason you've made it this far in one piece. grin

You apparently are not a Ravens fan. Since Rex Ryan is the former defensive coordinator for the Ravens and Ravens fans hate the Steelers, you can be sure that most Ravens fans will be rooting for the Jets.
The Steelers always somehow, with a combination of luck and their ability to make things happen, find a away to pull a win out of their #%$#% when they play the Ravens. And the Ravens contribute to this with dropped passes, penalties on touch downs turn overs, etc. none of which you can get away with when you play the Steelers. Thus I say:

GO JETS, GO. KICK THE STEELERS BUTT!!

Well Denis, I think there are more than a few fans that hate the Steeler and I'm not talking about fans of direct rivals. The Steelers win a lot, too often many say. That is reason enough for many to dislike the Steelers, same reason many baseball fans hate the Yankees. Also why many non-Pittsburghers love them, people love a winner.

Here in the 'Burgh winning is a big part of our love but it is more than that. The Rooneys are an equally big reason. They are not a wealthy family by most big league standards. When half the family had to be bought out by Dan and son Art because of involvement in horse and dog tracks in other states, loans and other investors had to be brought in to raise the cash to buy them out. I doubt the Rooneys could keep the Steelers competitive if it weren't for revenue sharing and salary cap. They simply do not have the cash to buy a championship so the Rooneys are shrewd football and business people.

They also are loyal to their players and fans. When Rocky Bleier, halfback to Franco Harris' fullback in the 70s, was drafted and saw combat in Vietnam and had a part of his foot blown off, the late patriarch of the family called Rocky and told him that the team needed him then paid for the operation and brought him back to compete for a job. The rest of the story is well known. Rocky became an important part of the Steelers of the 70's and even had a 1000 yard rushing season along with Franco one year. That is just one huge example.

The Rooneys are decent people, never has a player rep for the union feared for their job because of it. I heard a former player rep sing The Chiefs praise. Asking the rep to do what is best for the game.

Ben's off field shenanigans really put a stain on this team, the family and the city. I will never really forgive him for his actions and the embarrassment he has caused. Now I'm not so naive to think that his being the quarterback that he is didn't play into their consideration to keep him but they gave him a second chance. They have done so to many players over the years but they are smart enough to know when to release a problem players. If Ben hasn't changed and falls back into his old arrogant, misogynistic ways I have no doubt he will be shown the door.

I could go on and on about this family and the work ethic they instill and the love for our community they show time and again. Let me just say that they represent the best of American business, an example of how capitalism can be both profitable and compassionate. They know they are not bigger than the game and they are happy to make a very comfortable living and sharing their good fortune with players, fans and the city. For a lot of us hometown folks winning is more than the final score on the scoreboard and the Rooneys and the Steelers do Pittsburgh proud.

Yes, Dave...I should have read the entire post sleep!!

Denis - we are on the same page. My reading comprehension is hindered by Friday burnout and Steeler hatred. Us Raven's fans are still smarting from that playoff game!

I was almost in 100% agreement with your post. Other than that Ravens fan stuff. It's been a hard way of life over the past several years, but I'll always be a Cowboys fan.

I most agree with:

LHC - red winged black birds are not Ravens. The Steelers are a pretty good team. They got some good breaks in the 2nd half against the Ravens. We know they are very happy to not play the Patriots since they can never beat them. Take away Rothlisberger (or Rapelisberger as we call him) and the Steelers would be like the Colts without Manning.
My prediction: Jets 21,Steelers 13. And I'll go with Dave and Snowsmith>>>>>>GOOOOOO JETS! laugh

pffft.. Rex Ryan.. This generations Bum Phillips. Yinz gonna kick in the door this year, Rexxie? The fact that it's Ravens light makes this all the sweeter.

Lets be blunt. Tomorrow, after all those high expectations, Holmes' season will be up in smoke. That's the straight dope. He will be left out in the weeds after a hit or two outside the hash marks on the Heinz field grass. He will be left dazed and confused.

Make no mistake, they were dead Ravens on the field last weekend and thousands of others were found dead in their living rooms in the Baltimore/Maryland area.

I'm not going to defend Ben for his behavior, I already expressed how I feel about that but you got a lot of nerve for trashing a guy who was never brought to trail when the 'leader' of the Raven's was charge with murder then copped a plea for obstruction of justice. All turned out well for Ray and his buddies but I don't call Lewis a murderer. He is just an idiot. Hey, I'm all for smack talk and I'm just having fun but let's keep it on the field.

As for the Patriots, I wish the Steelers had the opportunity to beat them at home. I would love to have the NE fans suffer the same disappointment the Patriots visited upon us in 2 previous AFC Championship games at Heinz Field.

Hey Ravens fans, the Steelers have been to 15 AFC Championship games and have won 6 Super Bowls since the merger. How many for the stinking blackbirds???

Fact is the Raven are a great team. It wouldn't be a fun rivalry if both teams didn't bring out the best in each other.

As for the Jets, well this is the second straight year that they made the AFC title game. The are a very good team and match up well against the Steelers. It will be another physical game. The Steelers can beat this team and we'll be knock, knock, knocking on seven's door.

Hey GG, what are Santonio's chance for a big game tomorrow?....doobie-ous.

To all you Steeler's fans...congratulations. They are a great team and always seem to get the job done. Having a home in the Laurel Highlands, there is no way I'm going to root for those cheese heads in the Super Bowl.
But next year... grin

We Stiller fans do know how very fortunate we are to have such a great football team. The Jets never gave up and almost pulled it off. It was a great game because of it. I paced the floor for all of the second half.

This Super Bowl will be GREAT! Two of the NFL's most storied, small market teams clashing with very similar playing styles. Hard to believe that SI predicted this back in August. Those guys must've known something. Back in the day (when the stillerz were 1-13) I was a die hard fan as a kid. Now that I look all grown up, I'm still a kid when it comes to the stillerz.

Go Stillerz! SACK THE PACK!!!!

Congrats! We're still hurting here in Baltimore since it is the 2nd year (or is it the 3rd year) that the Steeler's have ended our playoff hopes. I starting thinking to myself, "Why would I want to root for a New York team?" . We hate the Yankees here in Baltimore. But when I saw all those terrible towels waving,it brought back bad memories.
That said, I love the City of Pittsburgh. My wife and I love going to the Strip District, the Cultural District, First Friday Concerts, etc. We have been to the theatre several times. We even looked at real estate and considered moving there. If it wasn't for the dreary weather (as many cloudy days as Seatle) we might have moved there.

I'm an old Colts fan. It broke our hearts when the Colts moved out of town. It has taken me and the City a long time to develop the similar passion that we had for the Colts and translate that to the Ravens. I think we have cleansed our psyche of the Colts finally. We now have a passion for the Ravens that while no where near as fever pitched as the 'Steeler Nation' but growing never the less.
All that said, I can't root for the cheese heads. Begrudgingly, I will be a Steeler fan for one game...the Super Bowl.
