NWS is calling for 4-8" over here in the other valley... the Shenandoah Valley that is. Perhaps I'll have a powder day tomorrow at the nut!
I wonder what CV will get out of this system when it's all said and done?!
From all I've been reading, it will be a wet, heavy snow. Sierra Slime-ment?
Good for base building at the very least.
I'll be at the lift 8:55 am on Thursday, at CV. Bet there is less than 5 others besides me and my crew.
It's still holding off - so it will dry and fluffy here in Canaan Valley - hey... at least I have hopes!
2 days ago on the slamage thread I posted an 8 to 18 inch predict..I don't make large spread predicts like that but I was just making fun of a local weather dude. I meant that if you need the broad side of a barn to be a target for a throw then you shouldn't be a pitcher..same thing with weather predicts..
Anyway you add my 2 figures & divide by 2 you get 13 inches for a 2 day total (Wed/Thur)
NWS started off slow as usual with a very tame amount & now that the Storm is on our doorsteps they just issued this for Snowshoe,WV...
(Snow and sleet likely, mainly after 3am. Cloudy, with a low around 20. Southeast wind between 7 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Wednesday: Snow and sleet, becoming all snow after 2pm. High near 26. North wind between 6 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.
Wednesday Night: Snow showers. Low around 14. Wind chill values as low as zero. Northwest wind between 5 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
Thursday: Snow showers likely, mainly before 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 21. West wind between 5 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Thursday Night: A chance of snow before 10pm, then a slight chance of snow after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 14. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.)
You could say that that is an 8 to 15 inch 2 day f-cast which would make 11.5 inches their midpoint amount...
this is a very, very tricky system since it is really 2 storms & the way they will interact will have to be seen.
SOOOO Kick back..Grab some popcorn & watch the show but if this one dissapoints somehow...the Snowgizer bunny will be drumming up one after another in a series of events untill further notice..I'm done weather watching & hangin the 'Gone skiing" sign on my door...see ya!

Andy I cut the fluff from your post and left the significant stuff. When fishnski signs off, there's a great chance of snow.
See ya!
So I'm guessing from Dave Lesher's 7am update that there was no rain last night/this morning (and how much sleet)? Anyone on location and care to respond?
A couple inches of all snow overnight. Sleet/snow/freezing rain started late morning. Now snowing heavily with huge flakes.
Just started coming down hard here in Harrisonburg around 1 pm... a little sleet mixed in, but mostly a heavy, wet snow
Quote just in from whitegrass website...
New Snow: 8" since morning and dropping at a few inches per hour right now
Snow so far this season: 140"
3 pm weather: 29 snow dump like never seen here in 30 years !
Absolutely puking snow for the last couple of hours..must have the 'locals' in hiding since we only heard from jonjon..
9.3 fresh inches on my car. Still snowing nicely, but not like it was between 1:15 and 3:15. Picked up 5" total during that span.
"Absolutely puking snow for the last couple of hours..must have the 'locals' in hiding since we only heard from jonjon'..
Fishki quote..
Thats what I meant jimmy..Hiding from the boss!...just like when I hung that "Gone Skiing" Sign on my front door this morn & the "Boss" saw it & changed it to "Gonna go Skiing"..soon as we take care of some Beezwax..
..I'm packing my bags..Trust me!...& thanks for the Kind words on your earlier Post my Man.
Unfortunately I had to work today but came home to a fresh 11 inches at 4:30, not snowing much now though.
Nice pics Abe! I saw/heard Thunder Snow in Arlington, VA tonight about 6pm. We got about 6" so far here in the flat lands and it came in about a 4 or 5 hour period.
we are still getting plenty of snow up here at the top end of the Shenandoah valley. Went to WT for a while today and it was foggy with sleet/freezing rain til about 2pm, then changed over to a sleet and snow mix. stopped at Sams Club in Hagerstown about 3pm and came back out to a mess. It took 3.5 hours to make a normally 405 minute trek home, and I 81 and WV 9 were a mess. Alot of the roads in and out of Charles Town, WV are closed, and there is 10-12 inches of frozen cement in my driveway and trying to pull the trees down on my power lines.
I live in northern Baltimore C0. I must say today was some of the most abysmal weather forcasting I have ever seen. This morning we were supposed to get rain or an inch of snow...we got three. This evening we now have 15" and it is still snowing. I live at the end of a 1/2 mile lane. My tractor cannot move this snow. It is Mid-Atlantic cement. I won't be getting to work tomorrow. May not be able to get out to ski in the Laurels this weekend.
I say we make the weather man run naked through the middle of DC in the snow yelling out "2 to 4 inches" over and over again. And we'll pummel him with snow balls.
Cement is right. Official total for Baltimore City on the radio was 9", but what I shoveled was a little over two inches of incredibly heavy slush.
City plowing continues to be surprisingly good, but I'm still glad I bought my Subie. Plowed right through the snow bank at the end of the alley. The old Focus never would have made it.
From all I've been reading, it will be a wet, heavy snow. Sierra Slime-ment?
Good for base building at the very least.
Dag JohnL, you sound like just another spoiled WV powder hound. I can hear you now "Whats the water content of the snow" Too high, I'm not going skiing today."

Washington Post Capital Weather Gang Best source by far for predictions/discussion of Wash-Balt area storms. They predicted the nastiness, especially worse the further north you go. Never listen to the TV/radio weather folks.
I saw/heard Thunder Snow in Arlington, VA tonight about 6pm.
Last night was a scene from Apocalypse Now. Thunder Snow was only part of it. In Annandale, the sky was repeatably lit by transformers blowing and who knows what else burning or trying to power back up. Looked like artillery shells going off. Unfortunately, I still don't have power.
Plus the commute home was interesting. Never saw so many snow plows stuck sideways across roads. Added to the normal DC snow commute madness of overly slow drivers, overly fast drivers and my favorite of all, the yahoos who drive with their flashers on for miles at a time.

muhammad Ali would Predict the Round..Babe ruth would predict which side of the outfield the ball would go over...& Uncle Fishky predicts canaans Snowfall total to the inch...
2 days before the 1st Flake fell & when NWS was saying 3 to 5 then 4 to 6, then 6 to 10 2 hours before the event.. good ole fish says we will get 13 for wed/thur..
Well the valley got just under a foot & when the light backside snows end this aft we should ck in with about...13 inches
...don't be bashful...you know you hate a braggin winner (untill they are gone)...throw me some hate..its all good!!
PS...Been doing this since 2003 here at DCSKI..not just a lucky streak....Snow Gods love me like I love Snow
..see ya!..
So humble.
Just got back from Laurel Highlands, and the trip on rt 70 was miserable with overturned and abandoned vehicles everywhere. With that said, at least when I left in mid day it was powder in the higher elevations vs what we have here in DC. More snow is expected through the weekend, and anyone who can make it there should have a great weekend at the resorts. This will help build a base that should last a while.
Alright fishnski... let's put your money where your mouth is
How much are you predicting for CV to get from the next two clippers through Saturday?
*A foot of fresh, dry, light lake flake would be nice for my first tracks at Canaan on Saturday
...for me, and i imagine the folks I was riding with, yesterday afternoon was the best riding of the season yet...pounding the snow yesterday...I sat into a lift chair at 3pm for my first run that had 8 " of snow on it, it snowed about 2-3 more in the next 1 1/2 hour...didn't touch bottum once(love that heavy snow 8 " feels like 16")....this morning was launchers on brand new 20', 30', and 40' kickers on lower dew into 12" of fresh pow...that's probably the only time all year these old bones will hit that 40 footer...oh yeah, it's on in the woods...if you can keep up...
