Boyce Park lift problems
February 1, 2011
Boyce Park lift shut down I hate seeing this happen to the small hill that was a starting point for myself and many many others in Western PA. They seem to have nothing but trouble since that new lift went in.
Saw this. It seems there have been several this year. Dont know if it becuase more folks are skiing due the snow or the equipment is having issues. It just seems like more than in the past.
Maintenance has always been an issue at the park. Can't say that is the issue now but history often repeats itself.
Shame too... great place to take 1st timers and for being dropped off to go hang out.
Hope mgt gets it all figured out soon so that they can leverage the snow to pay the bills.
I'm pretty sure this is not a new lift. It looks like the same lift that been there since they replaced the Poma platter pull. Maintenance for the lift should not be in question. The lift was inspected preseason and again after each subsequent incident. Doppelmayr (lift manufacturer) techs have OKed the lift before and are being asked to look at it again. There is something that they're missing (obviously) and we are fortunate that nobody has been hurt.
Boyce Park still introduces a lot of new folks to winter sports but the hay day was during the baby boom years. I bet the tubing hill is now more popular than skiing or boarding.
Sorry, I thought the lift got all new mechnaicals a few years back when Boyce pretty much took the whole season off.
You may be right about that. I'm not sure if the lift was 'refurbished' but the towers and chairs are the same. I'm waiting to hear what the problems are and how they will be fixed. There will be a 'hearing' conducted by county council this Wednesday in Pittsburgh. Perhaps some useful information will come out of that.
