Am looking into purchasing used kids skis (ages 5 and 7) to move away from high rental fees. Planning on 2-3 more trips this season. Anyone have any recommendations on where to purchase or experience buying used online? such as http://galacticsnowsports.com

Jr Skis w/bindings (100cm - 109cm): $89 - $119
Jr. boots Youth size 2: $39 - $69

or should I hold out on a ski swap sale this fall? Advice or past experience is welcomed!

I'm in Alexandria, VA. Phillip, nice advice on snowsportdeals.com I'll send Chris an email and let you know how it goes! One benefit of going local is that I can check the condition of skis and boots prior to purchase. It also looks like they sharpen and wax as part of the price.

You might want to check with some of your local shops and see if they have season rentals. I live in the Shen. Valley and rented skis and boots for the season the first couple of years from a shop in Harrisonburg. It was around $80 a season, I think it was cheaper for kids. Finally got my own skis and boots on sale at the end of the season a few years ago.

Ditto on the seasonal rentals. It's a good deal and you aren't stuck trying to get rid of used equipment at the end of the season. Kids will outgrow boots... fast, and at that age, the type of ski really doesn't matter. It really won't matter until their teen years. I have to laugh at some of the race mom and dads out there that spend a bundle on the latest high tech gear for their rug rats only to be stuck with it as they outgrow it. I've learned, through experience, that untill a kids skills get to a certain level, you're throwing money away by spending hundreds or even thousands on specialized gear.

There's a ski shop in Waysons Corner? Where's it located? Is it on Rt.4?

Start your own ski trade in program. Buy decent (not new) skis/boots for the oldest and trade it down to the younger one as the older one out grows them. For the 5yr old, I'd buy the cheapest pair of skis you can find, so that way you don't get all worked up if they decide to walk around in the grass with them on.
