Canaan Upgrades
April 1, 2011
Parson's advocate has article in this weeks paper about Canaan state park upgrades next fall...10.5 mil set aside for ski resorts..
..."magic carpet" to help disabled, older, or just plain lazy folks walk up the short hill to get to the lift, "significant lift upgrades", "substantial efforts to improve snowmaking", "improve traffic flow"...other improvements to ski area include building renovations, parking lot repair, and a wobble clay shooting range...
rumor also is that after the guest services contract is over that the state is going to run it in house...
Tucker, the "significant lift updrages" interests me the most. I have not skied there for a couple of years but my recollection was three lifts: A nice quad, a triple next to it and the beginner area lift. Not sure I would put much money here based on current uphill capacity demands, but snowmaking for sure.
Well, you can make 32 runs in 8 hours at Tline with 150 more vertical each time, or you can make about 105 runs at the state park (IF IT HAD A high speed quad).
I don't need to "stinking" snow - just get me up there faster!
(I take that back: more speed, more snow, better food, red carpet, vallet parking, kind people (as in: hospitable), and what ever else you want to throw in my dreams)
In all seriousness, ANY improvement is going to be very welcoming for the entire area & I look forward to them all.
The lodge folks told me that contruction on the first of the new wings (4 floors with indoor hallways) should begin this June. Two existing buildings to be torn down to make room.
And improvements to the ski area are could be a bonanza to all Timberline and CV skiers...meaning more skiers, more buisness for the lodge and other lodging, and most of all, maybe force TLine into more improvements to keep up/ahead of the immediate competition.
The Colonel
Wobble Trap?!?!? It would be so cool to have that as an alternative activity when the weather doesn't cooperate.
