Last Days of Season At Snowshoe
March 28, 2011
We skied at Snowshoe both Saturday and Sunday and really enjoyed everything about our weekend. In general our family likes this resort more than any other "nearby" eastern resort. We just wish it was a couple of hours closer to home. For this weekend tho, just two of us were able to get away. But it was worth it. Snowshoe was amazing. The last weekend of the season gave us both great bargains and fantastic skiing. We got a large condo style apartment, not booked until Friday, great food on the slope and in the Village, decent good spring conditions on Saturday and fantastic mid-winter conditions on Sunday. That's because Sunday morning we woke up to a nice fresh 6 inches of puffy powdery snow. This, on top of a nice base. But even if it had not snowed, Snowshoe had sufficient base to go for another couple of weeks. Plus even though it was the last couple of days of skiing, the groomers were out each day -- just like it was the middle of the season. And the only time we stood on line was when the patrollers were loading an injured person on the lift to go back up. I skied Vermont and NYS and in Europe. All have some late season crowd decline.. but it seemed like Snowshoe's slopes were empty. Its a shame because the conditions were great. One additional point: We found the staff and workers to be very nice all around. If you were thinking about skiing last weekend at Snowshoe, and didn't....you made a big mistake.
